Highlights
  • Paia - No trip to Maui is complete without a trip to Paia, Maui’s coolest little town. Located on the North Shore, Paia started as a plantation town with the opening of Paia Store in 1896 to serve the needs of the multi-cultural plantation workers of Paia Sugar Mill.
  • Pua’a Ka’a State Park - Pua’a Ka’a State Wayside is a charming and lush stop along the Road to Hana on the island of Maui, Hawaii. This wayside, situated in a rainforest setting, offers a serene escape into nature. Visitors are welcomed by dense vegetation, including towering bamboo groves, vibrant tropical flowers, and thick ferns.

One of the main attractions at Pua’a Ka’a is the picturesque waterfall and natural pool. The cascading water creates a tranquil ambiance, inviting visitors to cool off in the refreshing pool or simply enjoy the beauty of the surroundings. The area is often dotted with colorful birds and the soothing sounds of nature.

  • Wai’anapanapa State Park - This stunning beach, located on the eastern coast of Maui, is a result of the gradual erosion of volcanic materials, which has created sand that is black in color. As you explore the beach, you’ll be mesmerized by the contrast between the dark sand and the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. The high mineral content of the black sand also gives it a subtle sparkle, making it a breathtaking sight.
  • Ke‘anae Point - As a visitor to the area, you’ll be awestruck by the majestic Ke’anae Peninsula. This impressive finger of newer lava stretches out from the Hana Highway’s cliff line for half a mile. Even before reaching the turnout, you’ll catch glimpses of this scenic wonder from various lookouts along the way. Ke’anae is a historically significant village that has been cultivating taro for centuries, and today, much of the land is still used for taro lo’i farming. It’s remarkable to think that the soil was brought down here basket by basket, but it’s true since the area is made up of young lava rock that was created quite recently (in geological terms) during a massive flow from Haleakala.
  • Ke’anae Arboretum - Located adjacent to the Pi’ina’au Stream, the Ke’anae Arboretum features terraces built by ancient Hawaiians for cultivating taro, which was a staple of their diet. A paved walkway measuring 0.6 miles runs through the arboretum, showcasing a diverse array of timber, fruit, and ornamental trees from different tropical regions of the world, many of which are labeled with nameplates. With over 150 types of tropical plants, including taro, the arboretum is an excellent spot to observe native flowers and marvel at the vibrant bark of rainbow eucalyptus trees.
  • Hana - Shopping, Eating, Exploring… all in town of 782 people! It’s incredible!
  • Koki Beach - Koki Beach is a picturesque stop on the Hana tour, known for its striking red and black sand. Visitors can enjoy the unique volcanic scenery, take in the coastal views, and even catch some waves if conditions permit. The vibrant colors of the beach and surrounding landscape make it a memorable part of the journey along the Hana Highway.
  • Venus Pool (Waioka Pond) - For travelers seeking a thrilling and unique experience in Maui, the Venus Pools should definitely be on your list. This spot is known locally as one of the best places for cliff diving into the water, making it a must-visit destination. The drive to get there is absolutely worth it, and once you arrive, you can either jump off the cliffs yourself or watch the locals do their flips. What makes the Venus Pools even more special is that it’s where the island’s fresh water meets the ocean, giving you the rare chance to be in both fresh and salt water at the same time. So pack your swimsuit, bring your sense of adventure, and prepare to make unforgettable memories at the Venus Pools!
  • Ho’okipa Beach Park - As part of our tour, we will make a stop at Ho’okipa beach, one of Maui’s most picturesque beaches. It’s the perfect place to relax after a long day of exploring the Road to Hana. Aside from swimming and snorkeling, you’ll have the chance to spot Hawaiian Green sea turtles, known as honu, that frequent the area. Be sure to keep a respectful distance, as they are protected by federal and state law. The best time to view these amazing creatures is in the evening, when many honu stroll onto the shore to rest and take in the stunning Hawaiian sunset.

Absolutely amazing trip! - This trip was absolutely amazing and we saw some wonderful scenery and sights. John, our guide, was really knowledgeable and made the trip really enjoyable whilst pointing out the notable sights etc. He also recommended a good lunch stop at Hana Farm - the pizza was amazing! There were so many great sights but our highlight was seeing the turtles resting on the beech.

Thank you, Spencer! - Our private VIP road to Hana tour was amazing! Spencer was our guide and as we made our way up the long winding road to Hana he was incredibly informative and we learned so much about the Hawaiian culture on the way. I’ve got to say there was never a dull moment, especially on that particular road! Spencer took time to point out some of the most beautiful waterfalls and ocean views you’ll ever see! Our girls got to experience a very small but beautiful cliff jump, pizza at Hana Farms was unparalleled and you simply can’t beat the never-ending views and beautiful lush landscape. This is a can’t miss experience when in Maui and it was a great way to wrap up our week long family vacation!

A Must Do Maui Adventure- Request Luke! - Hi Everyone, I am not much to write reviews but I wanted to shout out this tour and our fabulous tour guide Luke. My partner and me were both visiting Maui for the first time. When researching Maui's must-do things, the Road to Hana obviously came up. After discussions, we decided that we were not ready to commit to an 8 hour day of driving. That said, we spoke with a few other folks who had visited Maui and they said the Road to Hana was worth it. All I can say is we are so happy that we did. Our first contact with the tour was the day before where our wonderful guide Luke sent us a text message, confirming where we would like to be picked up and gave us a list of things we should bring with us on the adventure. He was very thorough and detailed. The day of the tour, Luke reached out again to reconfirm the pickup time. He was there a few minutes early and then our journey started. During our drive to reach the Road to Hana, Luke asked us what we wanted to see. My partner and I mentioned that we wanted to see the black sand beaches and the waterfalls. We ended up seeing plenty of these! Other than that, we made some really cool stops along the way at local shops and had a wonderful lunch in the town of Hana. Keep up the great work guys. We loved it. Thanks again!

Best day of the trip! - Was visiting Maui for my birthday and this tour did not disappoint!! Overall, an amazing day and the whole team at Experience Hawaii was incredibly accommodating. I would seriously come back and do this exact same tour through the road Hana again. We could have stayed at some of the spots they brought us all day. So many incredible beaches, waterfalls, rainforests and can't say enough good things about the food. (The poke in Hana and the fruit stand were my favorite)

Soo much fun! Worth every penny - Our trip with Shayne was amazing! We did a half day tour because we have 3 kids, 10 and under and did not know what to expect and/or if they would tolerate an all day trip. Shayne was great at stopping at all the really nice spots and kept the trip moving along nicely, which resulted in happy kids (and parents). Knowing what we know now, we could have likely done the full day without any problems. Shayne did bring a cooler of waters and a big box of snacks too, which was great to keep everyone hydrated and not feeling too hungry. We also stopped at a place to eat on the way back that Shayne recommended and loved all of the food there! Highly recommend the tour! Mahalo Shayne!
