Highlights
  • Trou aux Cerfs - Explore the southern part of Mauritius in a 7-hour private day tour. The tour starts with a pick-up from any location in Mauritius. You’ll meet and be welcomed by our driver/guide, then set off for your first destination. Your journey begins at Trou Aux Cerfs, a renowned natural attraction in Mauritius. This dormant volcanic crater stands about 605 meters above sea level, with a diameter of 350 meters and a depth of around 100 meters. Unlike typical volcanic features, Trou aux Cerfs is encircled by a vast forest area filled with indigenous plants and towering green pine trees. It is believed that Trou aux Cerfs erupted once and has been dormant for the last 700,000 years, though experts think it could become active again. One of the main highlights is the 360-degree view of Curepipe town and the stunning vistas of Rempart Mountain, Trois Mamelles, and the Port-Louis-Moka Mountain range.
  • Mare aux Vacoas - Next, head to Mare Aux Vacoas reservoir, the largest on the island with a capacity of nearly 26 million cubic meters. It’s a popular stop for tourists visiting the south of the island. While it may not be as glamorous as other attractions, Mare aux Vacoas is a hidden gem nestled among thick forests. It’s the perfect spot to spend a few relaxing minutes away from the hustle and bustle. The reservoir also offers a stunning view worth capturing in photos.
  • Grand Bassin - A short drive later, you’ll arrive at Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, a crater lake about 550 meters above sea level in the mountainous southwest of Mauritius. The shoreline features a temple and several small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods. During your visit, you’ll be awestruck by the gigantic 33-meter-high statue of Lord Shiva, the tallest statue in Mauritius. Ganga Talao is a major attraction, drawing many visitors who come to pray, meditate, or simply enjoy the serene surroundings. The lake, about 18 meters deep, is home to a healthy population of fish and eels.
  • Alexandra Falls View Point - Your next stop is Alexandra Falls, where you can admire the cloud forest of Mt Cocotte and the waterfall, along with views down to the south coast. If you love waterfalls, this is a must-see! Hidden in the deep jungle of the Black River Gorges, Alexandra Falls looks like something out of a movie. Walking around this enchanting setting is a unique experience. The sight of falling water, surrounded by lush greenery and the sounds of local birds and other creatures, is incredibly relaxing. Don’t miss the chance to capture the panoramic view of the South Coast with its turquoise ocean. The surroundings of the waterfalls resemble a real jungle book, offering tranquility and peace.
  • Black River Gorges National Park - Next, you’ll visit Gorge Viewpoint for a stunning panoramic view of the endless green landscape. In the unspoiled rainforest of Mauritius, you’ll find nearly 17,000 acres of rolling hills, deep valleys, spectacular waterfalls, and diverse flora and fauna. The viewing area is quite high, offering breathtaking views of the gorge and a nearby waterfall. The path to the viewpoint has a unique ambiance, with some souvenir stalls along the way. You might even encounter a group of monkeys welcoming you. The Black River Gorges Nature Reserve was established to preserve the island’s natural vegetation and is one of Mauritius’s most important sights. The park protects most of the island’s remaining rainforest and is home to many species of wild animals and birds.
  • Chamarel Seven Coloured Earth Geopark - Chamarel is a small village and a major tourist spot in the southwestern region of Mauritius. Its unique feature is the seven-colored layers of sand, a phenomenon that attracts visitors from all over. The road to Chamarel is lined with sugarcane and pineapple plantations, leading to a picturesque valley. Once you reach Chamarel, climb the observation outpost for incredible views of the sand dunes in various colors: yellow, red, brown, violet, purple, green, and blue. This natural wonder is truly breathtaking. You can also buy test tubes filled with the seven-colored sands of Chamarel as a souvenir. On your way back, make a quick stop at the Chamarel waterfall.

The best tour in Mauritius - I have to thank very much for this tour. I was travelling alone and Ridwaan was a perfect driver and made me feel safe. He is professional, has a great communication, punctual and very reliable. Ridwaan gave me many information and was a pleasure to talk to. We stopped for food in a local food restaurant and I loved. I totally recommend Ridwaan and say he is the best! Thank you! 🙏🏻🙏🏽🙏🏿

Easy and enjoyable way to see the south west - Our guide Ridwaan got a great knowledge about Mauritius, and all the things, that are worth seeing, easy to talk to and flexible about the route and pickup. He was very welcoming, and told us all the history about all the sights, no homework needed to be done, because he will teach it all in a nice and friendly manner, and are open for any questions you might have! Would recommend whenever it's just one of his tours or a lift to the airport! (Also one of the cheapest!)

Best flexible itinerary - If you found multiple places attractive in south west Mauritius, this tour is definitely recommended. Though some places are listed in the itinerary, the driver will take you to tourist attractions with a great flexibility as long as you can come back to the drop- off point at the proper time. Bilal was a friendly, polite and punctual driver. He did not only drive, but also told me the stories of important sites. It was a good opportunity to move around the south west and to know more about Mauritius.

Wonderful Bespoke Day Tour. - We had a most wonderful day and will always hold fond memories of it. Our tour guide Feroz was incredible with an amazing knowledge of the island’s history, sites, flora and fauna. He looked after us so well and went above and beyond anything we expected. It was a privilege to spend time with him and to learn more about Mauritius both past and present; especially from a local perspective. I cannot recommend highly enough.
