Additional Information

Situated an hour and a half away from Medellin in eastern Antioquia, is the municipality of Guatape. This vibrant town unfolds a spectrum of colours along its streets, decorated with skirtings that narrate the tales of its inhabitants. The town has won numerous titles like Antioquia’s internal sea, Colombia’s Acapulco, the inland Cartagena, Paisa’s Paradise, Haven of Peace, and the core of East Antioquia. The town was named after the tribal leader Guatapé, from the pre-Columbian era. It has also been known as Ceja de Guatapé. The Guatapé Rock or Piedra del Peñol, a 220-meter high monolith, is a landmark in this region. Made up of quartz, mica, and feldspar, the rock was ascended for the first time on July 16, 1954, by Luis Eduardo Villegas López, and his companions, Ramon Diaz and Pedro Nel Ramírez. Today, the rock is still owned by the Villegas family, and visitors can climb to the peak of this monolith via the 740 steps built into it.

All day fun tour Guatapé - This tour had amazing views and food. It is an all day event, I recommend being well hydrated beforehand since the climb of the Guatapé Piedra is very tiring. Our tour guide Mateo was knowledgeable and spoke english very well. Would definitely recommend him to friends and family if visiting Medellin.

Amazing - Amazing experience with Mateo our guide. He was very welcoming for our Spanish tour of Guatapé. He not only provided us with detailed information of the areas, towns, and natural attractions but he also allowed us to venture on our own with tips on how to shop and what to look for in each. Would definitely do a tour with Mateo again as it was one of experiences on the trips.

Great way to spend the day! - This tour was very well organized and definitely gave great value for money. We started with breakfast. It was much easier to climb El Peñol than I anticipated and the views definitely made it worth it. Guatapé is absolutely beautiful and the views from the from boat ride were the perfect end to the day. Made it back to Medellin by 5pm which made it possible to rest up before heading out in the night.

Very well organized and great value! - Very well organized tour and amazing value for the money. Our guide Marlon was in my opinion the star of the show. He managed and entertained our group of 40-ish people perfectly. He also supplied us with some history and facts about Guatapé, and was very funny doing so. The food was also very good and more than enough. If you’re looking for a tour from Medellin to Guatapé look no further. Thanks Marlon and team!

Excellent Journey to the Monolith - We booked the trip online and were very excited to see all of the scenic Medellin mountains through the highest point of the monolith. From the day before of the trip, we received detailed instructions from the coordinator with a pick time and tour guide name. On the day of the trip, Alex, our guide met us at the lobby and the comfortable bus was waiting for us. The trip was so great, we had breakfast and lunch included along with visiting beautiful cities during the trip. Overallit I give 5 stars for this tour and shout out to Alex!
