Highlights
  • Ghajnsielem - Animated crib several local volunteers are in the final-touches stage for the TENTH EDITION of Bethlehem f’Għajnsielem, the event that has enchanted thousands of visitors over the past two years. The nativity village is situated adjacent to the Għajnsielem main square, on the island of Gozo, just 5 minutes by walk from Mgarr Harbour. Appropriately called “Bethlehem f’Għajnsielem”, this life-size crib, constructed on 20,000 square metre (sqm) of fields on a stretch of land known as Ta’ Passi, comes to life during the month of December with about 150 actors taking visitors back in time to Judea of 2000 years ago. The atmosphere will simply be unique horses turn mills, villagers go about their jobs, shepherds inhabit caves, animals roam in enclosed spaces and a poor unknown couple tend their newly-born in a grotto
  • Villa Rundle Garden - Christmas related items from the different stalls set up around the lower end of Villa Rundle gardens, nearest to Republic Street. Each stall is manned by a local voluntary organisation that provides services of a social nature to those living on Gozo. Proceeds from each stall will therefore go towards the organisation being promoted.

Items on offer from the various stalls include food, drinks, sweets, Christmas decorations, plants and flowers, and traditional pasturi. Entertainment throughout the different days is provided together with the presence of Father Christmas, the showing of different Christmas-related videos, storytelling sessions and a Christmas crib corner.

  • Xaghra - Around 29 mechanical and static artistic cribs together with a Live Nativity Scene are all be on display this year in Xaghra, including two large baroque cribs crafted in Naples.

The events are organised by the Xaghra Local Council and The Ghaqda ‘Il-Milied fix-Xaghra’ (Christmas in Xaghra Society), which is this year celebrating its 10th anniversary,

Ghaqda ‘Il-Milied fix-Xaghra’ was founded in 2004 to promote and organise better the celebrations related to Christmas in Xaghra and to see that cultural, religious and folkloristic Christmas traditions are well encouraged and promoted to preserve our heritage and identity.

The cribs are open for display till the 5th of January 2015 various centres and homes in the village of Xaghra and Christmas Exhibitions at the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady are open for public viewing.

  • Citadel - The Gozo Cittadella is often visited during daytime, when its museums, the interpretation centre and the magnificent Catheral are open for the public. However, we feel that this site is also worthy of a night visit and, unfortunately, many tourists tend to give a night walk at the Cittadella a miss.
First things first, the Gozo Citadel is magnificently lit and this gives photo enthusiasts countless of photo opportunities that will impress your social media followers or friends back at home. Once inside the Cittadella, you’ll feel a sense of peace and tranquillity especially since it’s barely visited at night. The quietness is only disturbed by the rustling of the wind, the church bells, or a curious cat coming to say hi.
  • Island of Gozo - On this tour since we have to follow the opening hours according to the Visit Gozo program, The crib and market stops are according to Visit Gozo program.

Great tour around Gozo, totally recommend it! - We got to go on the most narrow and remote streets with the tuk tuk, which was electric by the way, and the guide was super nice and provided us with many info, useful tips and nice stories!

Fantastic tour of Gozo with Martin - Martin met us at the ferry terminal holding a sign as directed. We had only booked it the night before and it was just us 2 and our guide. Such a lovely informative gentleman. He took us round the Island. Visited Victoria, The Salt Pans, caves and whizzed through some lovely towns and saw beautiful scenery.I was glad we were in the Tuk Tuk as the car would never had made some of the places we went to. He took us inside a few of the churches and gave us some information on them. Stopped as required for toilet trips. Such a fantastic afternoon we will always remember. Thank you Martin!!
