Highlights
  • Taman Ayun Temple - Taman Ayun Temple translates to ‘beautiful garden’ and is often considered one of Bali’s most picturesque temples. Located in a scenic park with trees and ponds near Mengwi village in southern Bali, it is about 8 km southwest of Ubud and 18 km northwest of Denpasar. Built in 1634 by the Raja of Mengwi, I Gusti Agung Putu, Pura Taman Ayun is a Pura Kawiten, or family temple, dedicated to the deified ancestors of the Mengwi royal family and important gods from other temples.
  • Tanah Lot Temple - Tanah Lot Temple translates to “Land [in the] Sea” in Balinese. Situated in Tabanan, around 20 kilometers (12 mi) from Denpasar, the temple is perched on a large offshore rock shaped by the ocean tide over the years. Tanah Lot has been part of Balinese mythology for centuries and is one of seven sea temples along the Balinese coast, each within sight of the next, forming a chain along the southwestern coast. The temple is deeply rooted in Balinese mythology and significantly influenced by Hinduism.

Additional Information

Tanah Lot translates to ‘Land [in the] Sea’ in Balinese vernacular. Situated in Tabanan, roughly 20 kilometers (12 mi) from Denpasar, this temple is perched atop a sizable offshore boulder, constantly sculpted over time by the ocean’s tides.

Historically, the Tanah Lot temple has been constructed and remains an integral component of Balinese legends for numerous generations. It stands as one of seven maritime temples along the coast of Bali.

Each maritime temple was erected within sight of the next, creating a sequence on the south-western coastline. Beyond Balinese legends, the temple has also been heavily influenced by Hinduism.

It was the best - I got seasick, but the guide took me to other tourist spots, where I was able to see a temple and the sunset over the sea, and he also took me to a restaurant with delicious food. I was really glad that he guided me all the way to the end.

Afternoon Visiting Temples - Our driver and tour guid Nik was fantastic! He reached out ahead of the trip so we knew what to expect and had fresh fruit for us in the car with AC. He explained the Balinese culture as we visited both Taman Ayun Temple and Tanah Lot for sunset. He even had a pit stop included for Balinese coffee / tea at Taman Ayu Sari Luwak Coffee during the tour.
