Excellent market and food tour experience - We had an excellent food market tour and cooking class. Laura- our tour guide was very knowledgeable in the culture and the city of Merida. During the market tour we sampled food and spices commonly used in Mexican cooking. We also gathered the food that we would use for our cooking class there. Bertha was our home chef and we had such a great experience cooking in her home. She gave us lots of culinary information and included us in all aspects of the cooking process. We are together the food that we cooked and it was so fun! Thank you Laura and Bertha for a great time!!

Great day of cooking! - We had a wonderful experience doing this cooking class. Our guide was amazing. She was very good at explaining everything we did from the market to the home. Her history lessons were very informative. The home that we cooked in was so welcoming. We were honored to be able to cook in this home.

Good time cooking yucatecan food:) - Incredible way to get into culture and food, we arrived on a very hot day but Laura (our guide) was very attentive to us with the necessary breaks along the way, we visited the market and then the food at Mrs. Berta's house was very good, it was fun to cook and learn with them. I really recommend this tour in your first day in Merida.

Highly recommend this tour - Absolutely the best tour! I love to cook and really wanted to do a market/cooking tour. My husband was a little interested and our friends said they would go, even though they are not big cooks (but we all like to eat!). We met Luz at the entrance to Hotel Caribe and the adventure began. Our first stop was at the Mercado Lucas de Galvez, where Luz proceeded to buy all of the ingredients for our lunch. Along the way, she explained what the various fruits and vegetables were, as well as arranged for us to taste several things (tacos con cochinita de pibil, horchata, and several spices). Done at the market, we took a mini-bus to the home of Dona Berta, a spacious, comfortable place. Dona Berta carefully explained every step of each recipe and got everyone involved. There were nine people total on the tour and it was a great group. Once the cooking was finished, we were treated to a meal fit for a king. After our delicious lunch, we were put into Ubers that took us back to our hotels/rentals. As a bonus, Luz emailed all of us the recipes for each meal we made as well as sent us several photos she had taken. This was a great experience and one of our favorite tours during our stay in Mérida.

Thoroughly enjoyed the experience! - It was a very fun experience - visiting the local market, taking a public mini bus and interacting with and cooking in a local household! It was a cosy/ private group with only my family of 4, the guide and the host - so everyone got a chance to get busy and involved. Our guide, Gisell Chay, was professional and friendly. She brought us around the market - introduced the local ingredients and we got to taste some local food as we shopped for the ingredients. She also helped with interpretation (in our interaction with the host) and supervised the food preparation process. Overall, she managed the programme very well and was good company! Our host, Dorcas, was warm and welcoming! Despite the language barrier, we really enjoyed the time with her and appreciate her hospitality. A recommended activity if you enjoy food, cooking and some cultural exchange!

Good experiance - We had a lot off explanation on the market tour, lots to see and taste. On the cooking site we got súper experiance from the local cook Eleonore. Diego was a very good guide who knows what he is talking about. Glad we did this and we advice others to do the same. Thank you Diego(camera)

Everything we were expecting and much more! - Luz, guided us to the large local market and introduced us to a traditional breakfast. Then, we explored the different market vendors to sample fruits, spices and treats that are native to the Yucatan . After a short mini bus ride we arrived at Berta's residence where she taught us to prepare a traditional meal. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of learning about the cuisine, learning to prepare it and to meet a wonderful family in Merida. Luz took pictures to remember the tour. After the tour we received an email which included the recipes and a list of the items we sampled at the market. The tour provided us with everything we were expecting and much more! We recommend this tour very highly. LD

Absolutely recommend this experience time and time again - I’m not sure how to put into words how amazing this experience was, but I’ll try 😉! This experience was life changing. My sisters and I had the most fun, with laughter, photos, conversation, and such delicious food. Such grace, as well from the family with our lack of Spanish. Laura was amazing at what she did, from taking us to the market, to us riding the bus to the host family house to translating when our own translation was not comprehended. Laura laughed with us, took photos of us and with us and ate with us. We thoroughly had an amazing time and would absolutely recommend this experience time and time again!!

cultural and culinary experience! - Luz welcomed us and took us to the Market, where we could buy all the necessary ingredients for a vegetarin meal, as we had requested it. We then went to Bertha's home, where we also got a very warm welcome. The cooking process was much fun, as were the conversations. After the class we received an email with all the recipes. The program is well designed and we can only recommend Luz and Bertha!

Fantastic introduction to Merida and Yucatan cuisine! - We booked this cooking class for the very first day we were in Merida and it was a wonderful introduction. Diego met us at the location provided and we toured the market together with another couple, trying various fruits, spices, and other novelties while he bought the goods we would need for cooking. Diego grew up in the USA so he spoke fluent english. He also was fantastic at immediately knowing how much spanish we spoke so that we could practice speaking spanish without being completely overwhelmed. We then took the bus together to the woman's house for the cooking lesson which was quite fun - we got to try a lot of foods and took home some new skills to try our hand at making Yucatan dishes at home. It was a long day, starting at 9am and ending around 3pm but we really enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend to anyone interested in becoming familiar with the market and getting an introduction to yucatan cuisine!
