Additional Information

There lies a stunning spectacle in the warm, shadowy depths of the lagoon where waters shimmer vibrant blue, teeming with life. The water around your fingers, the sweep of your kayak’s paddle, and the surge rippling off your vessel all sparkle amidst the blackness. Fish darting about leave luminous trails, dolphins resemble fiery torpedoes, and a manatee can be likened to a tranquil, elegant submarine. Multiple visitors liken the spectacle to the world of Pandora from “Avatar,” or remember the radiant plankton scene from “Life of Pi” as the softly glowing organisms can be held and let slip through your fingers. While a few may facetiously attribute this to NASA discharge, the truth is more fascinating - it’s a bioluminescent reaction from tiny algae known as dinoflagellates. These microscopic beings, safe and entirely natural, illuminate before your eyes in such vast quantities that millions can exist in a single liter of water. Your journey will encompass an extensive education about these rare and extraordinary organisms, guided by the region’s most enlightened professionals.

Phenomenal Experience!!! - Our family did the Mondo Combo Bioluminescence Kayak trip and what an incredible experience that was!!! First off, the staff at A Day Away are so incredibly top notch! They are as knowledgeable and informative as they are nice! We had the pleasure of having tour guides Gabe, Javon and Jackson. We encountered numerous manatees during our trip. There were just so many of them surfacing around our kayaks! We also saw the dorsal fin of a Bull Shark briefly surface shortly after leaving the shore. We paddled out to Bird Island which was really cool! There are over 200 species and thousands of birds on this federally protected sanctuary. It looked like something out of a National Geographic program. We then relaxed in our kayaks and watched an absolutely breathtaking sunset before paddling back to the canal to experience the bioluminescence. The glow of the bioluminescent dinoflagellates in the water is one of Mother Nature's coolest wonders! Especially against the pitch black sky of a new moon. Our guides would occasionally shine their flashlights along the banks of the canal where we then spotted a Gator. We also had some River Dolphins surface near us as we were making our way back to shore. We encountered so much wildlife and experienced so much nature during this memorable trip! We honestly cannot say enough good things about A Day Away Kayak Tours or recommend them enough!!! We had an absolutely wonderful experience! The Sebastian Family Macedonia, OH.

Great experience with friends! - A group of six of us watched the bio last night with Caleb as our tour guide, and it was a fantastic show. Stunning sparkles and clouds of luminescence were seen throughout the whole kayaking trip, with fun commentary on the bio, mullet fish, local wildlife and NASA property from Caleb. Thank you for this opportunity to see more of nature and learn about the bio!

Fun Adventure on Kayaks - A Day Away Kayak Tours is a must-try! The conditions were just right for our night tour to see the bioluminescence. The tour guides, Caleb and Derek, made the evening even more special. Their enthusiasm was contagious and their passion for what they do was evident from the moment we set out. They were not only incredibly knowledgeable and engaging, but also friendly and genuinely eager to ensure everyone had a great time. Their love for their job shone through in every aspect of the tour. Highly recommend this tour for anyone looking to add a touch of wonder to their day!

Semper Manatee! - In a last minute fit of pique we decided we wanted to do a Bio-luminescence tour! We reserved and arrived for our tour same day. Rick , our Tour guide, was friendly, professional, capable, and knowledgeable. My cousin and I shared a tandem kayak as a " relationship builder" XD :P as it was her first time going kayaking. We had a lot of fun! Furthermore, we got amazing photos of wild life. Spent a fantastic amount of time with a large group of Manatee's. All the while getting small tidbits about the ecosystem, wild life, kayaking, and NASA. Also, Rick did a great job of balancing the peace of kayaking with providing information and humor. He didn't constantly bombard us like we saw other tour companies doing. Finally, we did see Bio Luminescence. It's very sparkly and less "streamy" on this side of the area. If, that matters to you at all. The clouds it can form are fun to play with. Overall, we had a fantastic time. And, Rick helped me get my family more interested in kayaking in the future. Thanks, Devil Dog for the great time!

Nature’s Beauty - Fun experience with Jordan and Piper! Family friendly and learned a lot. The bioilluminescence are beautiful! A little overpriced- but still fun. They need to get better lighting for their sign on the shed- difficult to find. However- I called the contact number and they picked up right away and were very helpful in getting me connected and to the right place.

Bioluminescence is cool but would have had more fun not on the tour - The bioluminescence was really cool, but we spent less time kayaking and more time sitting in the same sport listening to the guide give random facts that were useless. Since we spent to much time just sitting there so close to the shore the bugs were awful. It would have been better a better use of money for us to just buy our own kayaks we could have had more fun not on the tour.

Disappointed - Disappointing experience especially for the price. We saw little to no bioluminesense, the surrounding area in which we kayaked was dull. There were several other kayaking outfits there at the same time. Very crowded
