Additional Information

In a little over a hundred years as a kingdom, the Bourbons transformed Naples into Europe’s second largest and wealthiest city. It was the first city to provide running water in homes, the first to implement segregated waste collection, and the first to offer free smallpox vaccinations to its residents.

The narrative has to start with the grand Royal Palace, constructed with luxurious marble. Within its walls, the entry staircase praised by Montesquieu as the world’s most splendid, and the San Carlo Theatre, Europe’s first-ever opera house, stands amongst the world’s finest.

Following a stroll down the Caracciolo promenade, the tour concludes with a trip to the Bourbon Gallery. This vast underground venue exudes a unique allure, promising a memorable experience. You have the choice to explore its many tunnels or to embark on the extraordinary journey of navigating an underground reserve in a raft, a mix of delight and awe.

A lovely day deep in the history of Napoli. - Literally in the last moment we decided to do the Royals to Bourbon tunnel walking tour. To our amazement it turned out to be a private event since the only participants were my wife and I. Our tour guide Simone proved to be well read and most importantly passionate about his profession.Being a native Napolitan he transferred his insight of his city and his suggestions on visiting places on our own during our stay in Naples really improved our experience. In a nutshell the tour is highly recommended, if you are lucky enough to be guided by Simone even better for you.
