  • 130-2 - This activity is a unique opportunity to not only learn about Korean traditional alcohol but also to brew your own makgeolli! We will provide all the ingredients and instructions. You will make makgeolli during the class and take home a container to continue brewing at home. After one week you will have your own craft makgeolli to enjoy at home with friends and family (if you are traveling we will give you a bottle of pre-made makgeolli)! The class will also include an overview about Korean traditional alcohol and how they are made (makgeolli, takju, yakju, soju), as well as a tasting of different Korean alcohols.

This class is a unique experience to learn more about and taste Korean alcohols as well as the process of making makgeolli from a native English speaking professional brewer who learned under Korean master brewers!

After the class you should have more knowledge of the rich history and culture of Korean alcohol, the variety of flavors beyond what you can find in the convenience stores, and the ability to continue your makgeolli brewing journey long after the class!

Additional Information

This is a unique opportunity to learn about and make your own makgeolli! This is the only English-speaking makgeolli making class in Busan. The class is perfect for anyone interested in Korean food and alcohol, history and culture, and fermentation. No previous brewing experience is required – we provide you with everything you need to make your own makgeolli!

The host is a professional brewer who worked in food and beverage in the US and studied traditional alcohol under Korean master brewers. At our makgeolli brewery close to Gwangalli Beach, we will introduce different types of Korean alcohol as well as what makes them different from other rice-based alcohols. We also provide a tasting of various types so you can try them for yourself!

We will then make makgeolli, from the processing of rice to incorporating enzymes unique to Korean alcohol. After making your own batch, you will have the option to take home a container to keep brewing or a bottle of makgeolli made in our brewery!

Great Experience, Friendly Host! - Couldn’t recommend this class more. Michelle is friendly and knowledgeable and helps you understand the makgeolli brewing process in more detail in addition to tasting a broad spectrum of makgeolli’s. Plus she even gave us a couple recommendations of other places to visit around Busan which were great! 10 out of 10!
