After this visit, we continue to ride to Kokino, passing by a few villages on our way. When we arrive in Kokino, we will have a view of the 4th oldest megalithic observatory in the world, according to NASA. We can see and take a seat in the special stone markers used to track the movement of the Sun and Moon on the eastern horizon. Four stone seats or “thrones” are placed in a row on the lower platform. Additional Information

The excursion begins with the collection of attendees from their hotel for a commute to Kumanovo, approximately 50 minutes from Skopje. The tour officially commences from a local eatery, from where we proceed on a paved road. Our initial halt is at the XI century Church of Saint George, renowned for its architectural style and mural paintings. Following this, we head towards Kokino, navigating through a few villages en route. Upon reaching Kokino, we witness the 4th oldest stone-age observatory worldwide, as per NASA. The site allows us to observe and sit on unique rock markers utilized for monitoring the movements of the Sun and Moon across the eastern skyline. The lower platform houses four stone ‘thrones’ aligned in sequence. A stationary observation technique was used at the site to mark the positioning of the Sun during the winter and summer solstice, as well as the equinox.

Post our exploration of the observatory, we circle back to our initial rendezvous point for a meal at the local eatery.
