Highlights
  • Mijas Pueblo - Mijas offers travelers the contrast between the traditional image of the area and adaptation to current times, all without losing the essence. The walk around whitewashed corners, courtyards, gardens, shrines. The village retains the leisurely pace and charm of the past, sheltered by the mountains and looking out to the countryside and sea. Besides the tourist attractions, such as the donkey-taxis, Mijas Village offers visitors several monuments that are interesting to know.

Visit the tiny bull-ring Plaza de Toros ( just outside photostop, 10mins), with its irregular shape; two Mudejar style churches; remains of the old Arab wall where your can enjoy beautiful gardens and the very interesting sanctuary of the “Virgen de la Peña,” patron of the town. The Church of the Immaculate Conception was built by the Muslims in 836, being converted into a Christian church after the conquest, when a Moorish-style tower was added in 1510. From almost any point of the village you can see the white chapel of Calvary, located at a somewhat higher level.

Additional Information

Join us for a private tour lasting 4 hours as we explore the historic town of Mijas Village and its key sights. Having been inhabited since prehistoric times, Mijas was once primarily a fishing and farming village, until the rise of tourism in the mid-20th century. Since then, construction and tourism have become the leading industries, significantly increasing both the population and income per capita, albeit with considerable impact on the environment. Nowadays, it’s a cosmopolitan city with a large proportion of its residents coming from abroad and serving as a popular residential hub for tourists in Andalusia. The tour includes an official guide in Mijas and a chauffeured vehicle. Pick up is available from the port and many hotels in Málaga and surrounding areas.
