Highlights
  • Hampton Court Palace - Constructed by Cardinal Wolsey, Hampton Court Palace offers visitors the opportunity to explore its exquisite gardens, labyrinth, and State rooms. A highlight within the palace is the magnificent Great Hall, situated at the heart of the Tudor Palace. Initiated in 1532 by Henry VIII, the Great Hall superseded an earlier hall that was erected from 1492 to 1514 and served as the venue for daily meals and entertainment.

500 years of horticultural heritage
The gardens, which now welcome countless visitors annually, were historically the private retreat of royalty. With each successive reign, from the Tudor period to the Victorian era, came fresh horticultural concepts and styles.

Presently, the Gardens and Estate team upholds the legacy of former monarchs’ gardeners.

From the refined Long Water of Charles II to the grand baroque gardens of William III & Mary II, inclusive of the Maze, to the opulent Victorian mass bedding arrangements, the Hampton Court Gardens have consistently been at the forefront of horticultural innovation.

Additional Information

Hampton Court Palace is a tale of two royal residences: a majestic Tudor palace constructed elaborately by Cardinal Wolsey and later by Henry VIII, contingent to a Baroque palace erected by William III and Mary II.
Tudor Palace and Henry VIII
Out of over 60 dwellings possessed by Henry VIII, none held higher significance or were more gloriously adorned than Hampton Court Palace. Presently, you have the opportunity to explore Henry’s Quarters, view his impressively reconstructed Imperial Crown in the Royal Pew, and surreptitiously descend below stairs to visit his expansive Tudor Kitchens. Here, 200 cooks, sergeants, grooms and pages strived to prepare more than 800 meals a day for the famished household members.
Baroque Palace and William & Mary
The splendid quarters of William and Mary, who reigned jointly in the late 17th century, serve as a luxurious and exquisite testament to the extravagant Baroque period. They offer exceptional vistas of the grand gardens.
The Magic Garden
There’s more to explore including the Georgian Apartments, and the Triumphs of Caesar
