Additional Information

Eduardo Venegas is an experienced tour guide with vast knowledge of the local Flora and Fauna. He has dedicated more than 20 years of his life to eco-tourism.
His special interest is for the birds of Costa Rica and has spent many years in study and research of the wide variety of species which exist in this small country.

He worked on the technical revision and photography for “An Illustrated Field Guide to Birds of Costa Rica”, published by Incafo Costa Rica S.A.
One of Venegas’ most recent and important researches is about the presence of the oilbird (Steatornis caripensis) in Costa Rica. The oilbird is a nocturnal bird rarely seen in Costa Rica. This specie is originally from South America and is the only nocturnal bird whose diet is based solely on fruits. Venegas has been studying the behavior, habitat and distribution of this bird in Costa Rica since 2010 in collaboration with INBIO (National institute of Biodiversity in Costa Rica) and MINAET.

Expert naturalist guided night tour - Eduardo is an expert naturalist who shared a wealth of knowledge and experience with me and my fiance on our 2 hour night tour at Bosque Eterno de los Niños Bajo del Tigre. Communication before the tour was very easy via WhatsApp. Eduardo is truly passionate about conservation in Costa Rica and has lived in Monteverde for many years. He taught us to use our ears and eyes to spot small but amazing creatures like frogs, tarantulas, beetles, spiders, scorpions, and birds (e.g. Lesson's Motmot). Without his eagle eyes we would have been totally lost. Eduardo has a wealth of knowledge about the creatures of the cloud forest and conservation and it was a pleasure learning from him and walking with him!

Fantastic Night in the Woods - Eduardo was an amazing guide. I have never me anyone who can spot insects like he can--and I'm an entomologist! We saw absolutely every little critter I had wanted to see in Costa Rica. I felt totally safe, and Eduardo and I connected over a shared love of ecology throughout the night. Gracias, Eduardo!

Wonderful information and great spotting! - Eduardo was easy to communicate with beforehand, and was waiting for us when we arrived at the entrance to the park. He is extremely knowledgeable, having lived and researched in the parks for 27+ years. We had one flashlight, and he had another with him. The hike (it's a walk, wear closed shoes you can dirty but nothing crazy) led us in a circle, and he was able to point out several birds, tarantulas, plants, etc. The amount of knowledge was spectacular, and we definitely would have missed all of it if we were on our hand. In fact, we liked it so much we hired him to guide us the next day at Monteverde, a different park - again, so much knowledge, and showed us so much we would have missed on our own. 100% recommend his expertise!

Night tour with true expert - Eduardo is an experienced naturalist who "lives and breathes" the rainforest. He is a walking encyclopedia of flora and fauna. He is a good fit for the person who really wants to learn, trusts local knowledge, and has the patience to listen and walk slowly enough to examine things closely. Please expect rain in the rainforest! We saw tarantulas (not as scary as I thought), a mottled owl, praying mantis, male walking stick, a woodpecker in its nest (yes at night) and much more. In addition, the tour was an excellent value.
