Best whale watching trip EVER - Saw common decency logins and a humpback whale. The crew took great care to make sure we saw sea life and tended to passengers who got sick. My recommendation is make sure to take a dose or two if Dramamine if you get seasick

My favorite experience in Monterey! - 10/10 would recommend to a friend. 10/10 would do again! Whale watching was on my bucket list and I was in Monterey for a friends birthday. Booking this tour was a bit of a last minute decision for me (I booked the day before I went). I spoke to a local who told me he does this tour twice a year and has never not seen a whale. That fully sold me. There is very little chance you will not see a whale!! I did the 12:30 tour on a Friday, and I checked the local whale watching report to see which species were “in season” before going. It seems most are more active in the morning. We saw two humpback whales feeding together, and they were 30-60 ft away from our boat most of the time. It was a beautiful sight to see! We also saw some dolphins, sea lions, albatross, and other seabirds. The crew were very kind and helpful, and the boat was very nice! Tips: - it will be COLD on the water. Bundle up. There is a heated interior on this boat. - even when it’s overcast, the sun may burn your skin. Bring sunscreen! - if you’re prone to motion sickness, take Dramamine an hour before you go. - the $20 upgrade to the top deck is not really worth it. Instead, when you start to get close to the canyon where the whales feed, head to the front of the boat on the bottom deck.

Fun and exciting event! - Our families saw a few whales close to the boat, saw tail flukes a few times it was fun! The water was choppy to add on excitement. So remember to take medicine half hour before the trip, stay outside to breathe the fresh air to prevent seasickness.

Great crew, good whales, rude captain - My husband and I went on the 12:30 boat on 06/26. We don't normally leave reviews, but there was an issue on the boat that really bothered us. Overall, it was an enjoyable trip despite the poor conditions. We spent a little extra to upgrade to the upper deck and during the trip, saw a bunch of humpback whales, some close-up, others from a distance. The crew was very courteous and took care of the sick people on the boat. One of the highlights of the trip aside from the whales was the marine biologist. The company advertises the trip as being narrated by a marine biologist. During the first half of the trip, she was sharing lots of information and we were learning a lot. Half way through the trip, the captain called her in and yelled at her, telling her to not talk about the whales, to just point them out. He complained that some people weren't moving to the other side of the boat where the whale were and that she needed to be pointing out the whales. It was frustrating watching him yell at her and disrespect her over this because she was pointing the whales out. She was telling people to look left or right, using the boat like a clock, and also pointing and holding her arm in the direction of the whales so anyone who looked at her could tell exactly where she was looking. We couldn't figure out why he yelled at her. It wasn't her fault if people weren't listening to her or didn't want to move. It became rather boring without her narration. At one point, we sat in the water for about ten minutes, struggling to find a whale while the waves tossed the boat around. We were promised a narrated boat ride when we purchased our tickets and it felt like that was taken away from us. We also noticed that the captain has a Trump hat on his dashboard, which felt very unprofessional. People should not be bringing their personal politics to work. The rest of the crew who wore hats were wearing company branded hats, which we assume is part of the uniform. We agreed it is inappropriate for the captain to be able to wear personal hat, especially one that is politically charged and controversial, while the crew are responsibly representing the company. The company caters to many different people from all walks of life, some of whom we assume would be uncomfortable seeing this hat (we certainly were), and it does not seem advisable for the captain to have this hat rather than a company one like the rest of the crew. After we turned around to go back to the docks, the marine biologist walked around the boat to talk to people. Since she was cut off in the middle of telling us about the migration when the captain yelled at her, we asked her about that and other things we saw on the trip. She has an incredible wealth of knowledge and we were surprised to learn she is self taught. She takes personal time off the clock to do research to ensure she's giving out accurate, up-to-date information about not just the whales, but the birds, fish, and other animals. Her passion and enthusiasm really shines when she talks about animals. We felt the loss of her narration all the more. The captain did make a few stops on the way back to point out additional whales to us, which was nice. Despite the poor conditions on the water with the strong winds and big waves tossing the boat around, it was a great trip. It would have been an amazing trip if the captain had let the marine biologist do her job. The captain said at the end of the ride that only the crew and marine biologist would get the tips, so we hope that the tip we left behind made their day better.
