Very good tour - Our guide, Dio, was very friendly and explained a lot about the animals we could see. We saw vipers, scorpions, toucans, sloths, kinkajus and quetzals. He knew how to locate them easily and we also had a great time with him.

Plesant and knowledgeable - Pleasant walk through the jungle forest at night. Saw spiders and frogs and snakes scorpians and some kind of tree raccoon. Overall guide very knowledgeable and was a good experience. Can't do anything about the other groups talking loudly. We tried to move about quietly so that we could hear animals move in the trees above and then spot them. We moved away from the loud people quickly.

Beautiful experience! - Our tour guide was extremely informative and friendly! We had a small group which made it easier to navigate. He helped take great photos of the wildlife he spotted and made it a great experience for all of us. I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Monteverde

Well worth it! - We had a great guide and the experience was amazing. We saw birds and insects but the highlight was a sloth and her baby climbing and feeding in the treetop!

Worth it but set expectations - Although we weren’t able to change our reservation because our child was sick, we had a good time. We saw cool animals but not as abundant as I would have liked, but it is in the wild, so I would temper expectations. The guide was very helpful and patient in getting pics with the scope. There were many groups that head out together and although they help each other spot the animals it felt a bit crowded. The 1.5 hrs went by in a flash.

Fun wildlife tour! - My husband and I did the night tour at 8pm, along with a few other people, 6 total including our guide. We saw lots of interesting insects, reptiles, and animals including a stick bug, owl moth, leaf cutter ants, a scorpion, green viper snakes, several birds, an armadillo, a tarantula, a glass frog, a horned grasshopper, and a sloth (yes, we got lucky!). Our guide was very knowledgeable in terms of where to look for wildlife and we had a great experience overall! We enjoyed this semi-strenuous walk, but note that this is not an easy/flat night walk. Two things that we thought could be improved: 1) The guide could have provided more explanation of things and spoken more slowly; 2) The guide could have given more detailed/clear instructions of how participants should behave (e.g., don't swing your flashlight around, don't shout, move out of the way after your turn at the telescope, etc.), since some of the people on our tour were very loud and had little spacial awareness.

Great tour, but a note to the organisers: don't wait for latecomers! - The tour was pretty good, I would give it 4 stars for the variety of wildlife seen and the knowledge of the guide. We saw a toucan, snake, scorpions, a kinkajou, small frogs and a variety of birds. The reason I'm only giving 3 stars is because we waited 10 minutes for a couple who were late, but the tour ended exactly on time, so we didn't get the full 2 hours. It was frustrating watching other groups start their tours at 6pm on the dot, but we had to wait around until 6:10pm, therefore getting 10 minutes less time than any other group. The tour instructions clearly say to arrive 5 minutes before, so if people are late then the tour should just leave without them, otherwise it's not fair on those who have arrived on time.

Temper your expectations - The guide was friendly. And he was able to spot a sleeping toucan and a viper. But don’t go in thinking you’ll see all the exotic animals you see on billboards. The night tour is a quintessential experience if you’re in Costa Rica.. I get it. But it was a lackluster experience. The flashlights provided were weak — we had to depend on the guide’s flashlight to see the trail in front of us. Overall it was neat but not remarkable my any means.

Crowded and pricey for what it was - Our guide knew his stuff and was friendly. Despite our group's manageable size, the place was packed with people from other groups, making it hard to see animals sometimes, or even move around at times. Saw just a few animals like a frog, some birds, a hidden tarántula, and a distant sloth - nothing you couldn't see in the daytime with better light. Couldn't get any good pics either because it was too dark. I had better experiences and better pictures walking alone in national parks. The whole thing was shorter than promised too. It was pretty pricey for what it was. I wouldn't really recommend it.

100 people in a tiny reserve - A disappointing experience, not because of what you see, but because of the Disneyland-style organization. The tour was a victim of its own success. Around 100 people and a dozen groups wander around a tiny reserve. As a result, we spend more time listening to the other groups and coming across flashing lights than animals. As soon as an animal is found, all the groups converge on it, and we end up feeling sorry for the disturbed animal. It's best to opt for other, smaller group tours.
