We had a night tour guide who responded to our requests for viewing certain animals. - We had a marvelous time, thanks to our tour guide. He was gracious enough to involve our nine-year-old daughter in making some key decisions. She chose, for example, to see a snake, a tarantula and a sloth. He spotted for her a snake and a tarantula. At one point, he asked her to lead the tour. She tried at first but quickly deferred to his expertise. Both my husband and I were delighted with the way our night tour guide interacted with our daughter.

A very unique experience - Our guide was clearly very skilled at spotting things. We were able to see a pit viper snake, tarantulas, a sleeping humming bird, a moss stick insect, some crazy bioluminescent beetles, an armadillo, and some howler monkeys. We enjoyed our time, even though the park was very crowded with other groups.

Do not hesitate to book this! - This was a very special evening. I am still beaming thinking about everything we saw. Our guide, Marlin, is a trained veterinarian by day and wildlife savant by night. He had a sixth sense to know exactly where to find interesting critters. Sure the guides share info, and if you visit the refuge daily then you naturally have a general idea of who is hiding where, but still this is wildlife and not a zoo, so I was blown away by his ability to find things. And it was such a fabulous night Marlin stayed with us an extra half hour. (Plus he was super patient and helpful with the photography through his scope. Halfway through I just handed him my phone to take pics every time we saw something.) The highlights of this trip were a hummingbird falling asleep, a sleeping howler monkey, a motmot, a tarantula, a scorpion, walking sticks, metallic gold beetles, rainforest frogs, a coati walking through the woods, an opossum, and a sloth that had left his perch in the canopy to come down to the forest floor—to poop! This happens only once a week, but it is not common for the tours to witness the ritual. In fact Marlin had only experienced it once before. Granted your mileage may vary, but at least you are in great hands with Three Brothers, and even if you see half of what we saw it is really cool walking by moonlight through well maintained trails.

Bucket List Trip To Rainforest - We went on two hikes with Three Brothers Tours during our trip, and both were excellent! Albert took us on a night hike in Monteverde, and he went above and beyond to show us as many creatures as possible and share his knowledge with us. He even took extra time at the end of the tour to ensure we saw a sloth before we left. His knowledge was vast and his energy and passion for the forest was palpable. He truly made the experience magical. The second tour we participated in was a hike in the Monteverde cloud forest. Alfredo was our guide for this tour and he was also so kind, knowledgeable and helpful. He knew the answer to every question we asked, shared history and fun facts about Monteverde and the surrounding region, and ensured each member of our group had more than one chance to look at the creatures he found. It was also clear that Alfredo shares a deep love of the forest. I HIGHLY recommend Three Brothers Tours, and will happily look them up again on our next trip to Costa Rica.

Highl recommend to everyone. - It is different feeling to take night tour at Monteverde. Kind of scary to walk at night but very interesting to see some birds or insects that we may only have better view at night. The tour guide has very good vision and find birds, snake or insects easily. Highly recommended.

Totally worth it! - Really enjoyed this night walk and got to see lots of interesting animals including a sloth eating, a Kinkajou, tarantula and side striped viper. Excellent guide with lots of knowledge. Definitely worth the expense. A highlight of our trip to Costa Rica!

Nature lovers make great guides! - The night walk was great, we say a great selection of birds, spiders, snakes, and a Kinkajou! We saw a Long tailed Manakin and a Quetzal. Our guide Alexander knows an amazing amount of information about the animals, birds, insects, reptiles and flora. He is very patient and clearly loves the area. There was a family with a child (7-ish) and he was great at getting her engaged in finding things. I highly recommend Three Brothers Tours.

Good, but some small issues - I enjoyed being in the rainforest at night. We saw lots of bugs, some birds, and a kinkajou. The tour guide was fun and informative. Unfortunately there were many other tours in the same place and it got somewhat crowded. I also felt like the tour guide could have communicated better with the large group.

Our guide was great. Saw... - Our guide was great. Saw a bunch of insects and some sleeping birds. Sorry to have not seen a sloth.

Not as Expected. Very disappointing. - I hate leaving bad reviews especially for businesses like this. After so much reading on whether or not we should do a night tour and where to put my money for paid activities, I decided I’d go ahead and book this tour. After reading reviews it seemed promising. When we arrived we had to pay the wildlife refuge entrance fee (which was expected). Found the three brothers that were supposed to be giving our tour at some tables, we were greeted and just kind stood around and not much was said to us-we didn’t get started until 5:45 or so (I’m guessing for it to get a little more dark) while some had already headed out. Since it was just us 3, we went with just one of the brothers (not sure if this was standard but I understood) The bad: Overall I was pretty disappointed by this tour. I felt all we did was just walk around in hopes to see stuff. I caught on rather quick that all the tour guides seem to know each other and they’re all there to help each other out, so when one spots something they let the other know and vice versa and things like the tarantula home and this bird nest was something that everyone knew where it was. We also weren’t given many facts and details of animals and the refuge. It was a very quiet and awkward tour we felt and sadly we learned more and heard more being told to customers on other tours than ours. Once again I’m not sure if that was because we were a small group but it’s shouldn’t matter. $96 dollars is expensive for something like this. Also in the middle a motorcycle rode through the street part of the “refuge” so I found that kinda tacky and didn’t really feel I was in a “ wildlife area” at all. The good: We did see a couple small frogs, nothing to write home about and at the end we got word of a sloth so we ran to this area where we saw a momma and baby sloth and that was very very wonderful to see. My boyfriend spotted a toucan so that was cool! Tip: My daughter and I kept getting attacked by ants (most not aggressive but did get some bites) and a bunch of bugs flying around. This I don’t complain about because it’s expected but definitely felt like we couldn’t enjoy the tour, constantly worried about bugs lol (realized she’s not meant for that kind of stuff), even after putting OFF on. It’s good to make sure you come prepared at night no matter which tour you choose since the bugs do come out at night.
