- Fortaleza del Cerro - Now it’s time for a short coastal drive towards the highest point of the city, at roughly 300ft. Here we’ll appreciate 360 degree breathtaking views of Montevideo and see the 210 years old colonial fortress from outside.
- Ciudad Vieja - Here you’ll discover the Old City by foot, where it all started. We’ll see unique 200+ years old buildings and visit the most beautiful squares of the city, such as Zabala, Constitution and Independence Square with its huge monument and majestic Solis theatre and Salvo Palace surrounding it, where we’ll also pass under the old Gateway of the Citadel.
We’ll also see the Metropolitan Cathedral, National Bank building and many other attractions that are located within the district such as the Cabildo (old city council) and find some remnants of the wall from when Montevideo was fortified.
-
Parque del Prado - Not too far from Cerro, we’ll visit this beautiful and old green residential neighbourhood, where upper class families used to live during last century. As a proof of that, there are still some of the manor houses. Then we will see some interesting sculptures at Prado park, the greenest area of the city.
If you’re interested in art, we can also pay a visit to Blanes museum, home to the most impressive paintings of the greatest Uruguayan artists. - Palacio Legislativo - Now it’s time to see the Parliament House, a massive neoclassical building made of marble dating from almost 100 years old. You’ll be impressed by its huge columns. This is where Uruguayan laws are made.
- Mercado del Puerto - Now it’s time for a tasty lunch. You’ll have many options to choose from, such as a typical Uruguayan “asado” (bbq) at Mercado del Puerto, a 150 years old market. If you want to have another thing, you’ll also have plenty of options, including pasta, empanadas, or if want, you can try our unofficial national dish, called Chivito.
Lunch is at your own cost. Stopping for lunch is optional, we can skip it if you prefer.
- Rambla de Montevideo - We’ll take advantage of the longest coastal walk in the world, driving all along its length and stopping at a few points for short walks and panoramic views.
