Additional Information

Join a comprehensive day-long coach journey from Munich to explore the Berchtesgaden Mountains, which were once Hitler’s mountain hideaway and the Nazi party’s southern base. The Eagle’s Nest, constructed by the Nazis, is an intriguing landmark with profound historical implications. Positioned at an elevation of 6,148 feet (1,834 meters) on Mt Kehlstein, the lodge offers some of the most stunning Alpine views in Germany. Intriguingly, Hitler, who suffered from acrophobia, seldom appreciated these vistas.

Awesome Tour / Must Do! - Elisabeth was an awesome tour guide with a very high energy and great personality! She made sure that we made the most of our time during the visits to the Eagles Nest and the Documentation Center. Elisabeth especially went out of her way to allow us to see the Berghof and related ruins nearby. Thank you so much for a 5 star tour!

Take this adventure! You won’t regret it! - What an amazing tour this was!! Well worth the time and money! While the Eagles Nest isn’t large and doesn’t take a lot of time, it is quite the experience to be there and learn about more of the authentic history and to visually see it. We had very dismal weather which impacted views but really added to the feeling. We walked to the top of the mountain peak. It was surprising that we were all fogged in but just as we were about to board the bus, we looked up and the fog had lifted over the Eagles Nest and we got a great view! We were fortunate and had Elisabeth as our tour guide and Robert, as our bus driver. Elisabeth is a wealth of knowledge about the WW2 history and much more. Being a tour guide is so obviously not just her job. It is her passion and she exudes this from start to finish. Our day ended in an unfortunate manner as there was much sad flooding in the area and it was difficult to find a route that would allow us to get back to Munich. Robert did an absolutely amazing job of taking us down different backroads, some of which worked and some of which resulted in us having to back up. Both, he and Elisabeth were excellent at maneuvering this unexpected event. Again, highly recommend this tour and the very competent and engaging staff, Elisabeth and Robert.

The ‘Eagles Nest’ is well worth a visit when you are next in Munich! - We thoroughly enjoyed this tour - the time up at the ‘Eagles nest’ was a real highlight! Our guide made it particularly interesting by weaving in great stories along the way and was most accommodating of everyone’s needs:)

Tour guide Ursula saved the day! - What could’ve been a disappointing day due to the terrible rain and fog in the area making it impossible to see the beautiful surrounding vistas, was made worthwhile due to our great tour guide Ursula. She continuously provided us with wonderful information about not just the background/history of buildings in the city and areas of the countryside, as well as our destination, but she seemed to know even some amazing details like (I kid you not) where to find the oldest lime tree in an off road village we were driving through. As per the destination itself, the Eagles Nest is now more a restaurant with some additional areas of artifacts. Honestly not to much to explore in the building itself. What I found more interesting was the documentation center (ticket was included with our booking) - loads of interactive sites about the area and artifacts, but even better is being able to go into the underground cave system the Nazi’s intended to use as a bunker/command center in dire circumstances. If you are a WW2 history buff, this is not to be missed. If you are going for the scenery only, though - makes sure the weather is good.

Engaging and educational - The museum / document center was impressive. We visited on a rainy day so the views from Eagles Nest were not available . Tour guide was great and made the bus ride engaging and educational.

You can book the tour - if only you could book the weather! - This was a very informative tour, with an enthusiastic guide, who provides an abundance of interesting nuggets of information about the region, the history and notable accomplishments, throughout the journey. This is clearly what separates such a decision to book, from the chance to go it alone. All is taken care of by the tour company, which makes the very long day, go by with very few setbacks. There was enough time to enjoy and explore the site, because the interiors are rather limited in scope. The weather is the biggest gamble, which is where Alpine regions can make or break your photo album. We arrived to a prolonged downpour. Views of and from the summit were extremely limited for the entirety of the trip, which was extremely disappointing, especially when you look at the postcards. The documentation museum is well worth time dedicated to it and the audio guide therein, is simply fascinating. The guide and driver combine wonderfully to engage the tour participants for both stretches of the long journey from Munich, pointing out and slowing down (where possible) to allow scope and splendour to be fully absorbed. Highly recommended...if only the weather was as good!

Worth it! - Great tour! Happy upbeat and very knowledgeable tour guide Ursula! We felt like she really made sure we all learned the history and LOVED all of the questions. The bus was quite comfortable and the lay back seats were perfect for a nap on the way home. Pedro was Ursula’s assistant, very helpful and Robert was a great driver !
