Great guides - Stevo and Lockie were AMAZING tour guides, not to mention full of humor! We got stuck on the Autobahn for 2 extra hours due to flooding. They made the best of it with the group. The guys were very knowledgeable about the towns along the way to the castle and about the castle itself. Thank you for a wonderful time!

Excellent countryside and castle experience - This was a great day trip from Munich to the Bavarian countryside. The highlight of course was Neuschwanstein castle. Our guides Nick and Thomas from Radius tours were excellent and prepared us for what we would see inside the castle since the official tour inside the castle is very rushed. We had a lot of time to explore the area and enjoy the breathtaking views. A must visit for castle lovers.

Really memorable experience - It was not just a tour, it was a real experience! I rarely make an effort to get acquainted in advance with the history of the places I visit, because I'm too lazy, I guess :) I usually just go visit different places, have a look around, make a few photos for my social media and go back home. This time it was a completely different and new experience for me! I want to thank our excellent tour guide Thomas, who during our 2-hour ride on the train and on our way to the castle managed to tell us the whole history behind the castle building, the life story of Ludwig II, all stories behind the beautiful murals in the castle in such lively and memorable way, that when we finally entered the different chambers I could actually understand what I see and feel the fairy-tale atmosphere of the place and experience it in a meaningful way. Now my memories of the place are inseparable of the sad story of Tristan and Isolde and their tragic love, brave knights of the Holy Grail and the once jester-like Parzival growing up to finally show compassion. I can clearly see in my mind the brave swan knight Lohengrin coming on his boat to save Elisa and I secretly laugh thinking about Tannhäuser in Venus's cave. Thanks a lot for the beautiful memories!

Awesome Tour - Each year, I take a solo trip for Christmas, and I try to fill them with all the things important to me on a holiday: sightseeing, learning, history, and fun. Neuschwanstein was naturally at the top of my list for this trip, and this tour did not disappoint. Charlie was my guide, and he was fantastic. Usually there are two guides per tour; but Charlie had to handle all of us on our own as the other was sick. Charlie is a great docent, for all the usual reasons: he's knowledgeable, friendly, etc. But he shines in two specific areas: taking the subject matter seriously and caring deeply about his guests. The level of care displayed was phenomenal, and it truly felt like Charlie already somehow knew each of us. And in terms of his style, he avoids the usual corny jokes one usually hears on tours. He doesn't treat the subject matter as boring, using jokes to fill in where insecurity reigns. Instead, he treats the subject matter with respect, and encourages the group to do the same. It was really cool! Also traveling solo? Here's an easy tip: board the bus first ;-)

Dream castle up a steep hill - We had a great day both the tour guides Elizabeth and stephanie were really really wonderful as well as the bus driver. This was a trip of a lifetime. very exciting to finally come to this beautiful part of the world and it was exciting that there was snow. I was really thankful. I took the horse cart to the top and didn’t have to do the large amount of walking inside. The Castle is really beautiful, remember, no photos allowed, but the stairs are a killer I managed to keep up with the tour group but was always last.

Beautiful castle, not enough to do on the tour - Neuschwanstein itself was lovely — the tour of the castle is quite short and was only given by audio guide, but they are given by the government so the tour company can’t do anything about that. Our tour guide was great, but the trip itself was way too long for the number of things there are to do. We had an hour and a half for lunch, then an hour and a half before our tour of the castle and then an hour to get back to the bus after that. It ended up feeling like a trip that easily could have been a half day. Or, it would have been good to book ourselves tickets to Hohenschwangau Castle so we had something to do with all of our extra free time, but we weren’t given an itinerary in advance so there wasn’t a way to plan for that. Also the tour company ended up short by one ticket, so one of the people on our tour was unable to tour the castle. The outside of the castle is cooler than the tour of the inside anyway, but seeing as guaranteed tickets is one of the services of this tour, that should have been locked up.

Skip the tour, hire a car instead - This is a tough one to review, so the highs and lows are below. Positives: - Charlie was a great guide and even though he talked a little too much, he clearly knew his stuff and was very friendly. - The castle itself is well worth a visit! Negatives: - The timing of the day! There was SO much waiting around in the cold. We had an hour for lunch and to explore the village, but then 1.5 hours to walk/ bus/ carriage up to the castle which takes at most 40 mins if you walk. Then there was another 1.5 hours to get back down to the meeting point (again, max 40 minutes). It’s cold up there in winter and there’s no shelter from the rain so they seriously need to adjust their timings. - The cost: you pay extra for the castle, extra for lunch, extra for the carriage or bus ride. I’m still not sure where the €60 goes. - We booked expecting a max of 25 people in our group so were disappointed when we ended up with 52. Castle: 5/5 Charlie: 4/5 Overall tour: 2/5 If you can get up there yourself, it’s a much better choice than taking a tour.
