Additional Information

Experience breathtaking views, a picturesque, pristine mountain lake, and history from the German Middle Ages to the notorious Nazi reign of the 3rd Reich on this private one-day Panorama Tour, led by your personal and knowledgeable guide. Your journey starts with a drive featuring plenty of scenic attractions, followed by a visit to the historic town of Berchtesgaden. The crowning moment of your day is a boat ride across Lake Königssee to the famed Peninsula of St. Bartholomä.

Admire the stunning vista from the renowned Eagle’s Nest viewpoint (available with Shuttle busses from May - Oct), then gain deeper insight into the unfortunate history of the Obersalzberg region. Situated nearly 1,000 m/3,200 ft above sea level, this plateau served as a secondary governmental hub for Hitler and his retinue. You can still find remnants from this era, such as certain buildings and an expansive network of bunkers, partially preserved and open for public viewing. Uncover the hidden markers of the ‘Third Reich’ in accompaniment with your guide, supplemented by historical pictures.

Via a scenic Panorama Road, the comfortable and modern VW Minivan takes us to the climax of our trip, which is also a ‘Sound-of-Music’ film site. After soaking in these memorable views, we journey back to Munich.

Worth Every Penny, Be Sure to Ask for Thomas - How much time do you have? Because I'm sitting here thinking of the highlights of this tour, what made it special, and what made it so worthwhile and I hardly even know where to start. The Highlights: Thomas picked us up in a newer model minivan that was really comfortable and actually air conditioned. He got us on the road to Berchtesgaden and along the way pointed out different sites of interest, filling us in on local history and even current events. It was the same with each location we visited: we went from Berchtesgaden to Lake Königssee and really enjoyed the boat ride and visit to the St Bartholomew church and surrounding area of the Hirschau peninsula. Then it was on to Eagle's Nest, and from there to Salzberg. That was our itinerary; we chose what, where, and how long we were able to stay at each place. This entire area is Sound-of-Music stunning, and we were in awe of the natural beauty: mountains, valleys, beautiful forests, lakes and rivers. It didn't disappoint. What made it feel special? At each place Thomas told us interesting stories that we'd never heard. He took us to the very spot where Hitler's house stood before it was bombed, also where Goering and others stayed while visiting the area. He gave us great advice about Eagle's Nest (go immediately to the elevators to avoid long lines!), told us funny stories about some of the Salzberg statues, got us to try the famous Mozartkugel chocolates - yes, they're delicious and I don't even like marzipan. He found a bathroom for me to use in what must be the chicest spot in Salzberg's square where I got to wait in the women's restroom line with women whose jewelry cost more than my car, so that was an adventure, lol. There were so many other things he did for us, I can't begin to list them all. At the end of the day he asked about our plans for the next day and gave us great ideas for places to visit and took us on a tour through the areas of Munich we wanted to see, making recommendations for everything from shopping to museums to places to eat and how best to get there. Being able to have long conversations with a guide is an entirely different level of touring: we learned and saw so much that we never would've been able to on our own or on a group tour - not just about the history and the location, but also a little bit about what it's like to live in Germany. Being chauffeured around is amazing - that means no driving, no having to find a place to park, having everything explained in detail, having tickets to some attractions purchased in advance, being picked up right outside of each place instead of having to schlepp all the way across a parking lot (more and more appreciated as the day went on), having the border checkpoint explained to us (and sailing right through it). These are all part of what the private tour experience entails. We never would've had this level of enjoyment being on a bus tour. We're not even close to being fluent in German and I don't know that we would've had the confidence to travel to all these places on our own. The X factor was Thomas. His personality is just wonderful. He's funny, smart, knowledgeable about the area and sincere is his desire to make sure you have the best experience possible. He went above and beyond to make the day a special one for us, and made us feel like we were hanging out with a new friend all day instead of a tour guide. Added bonus: he's a safe driver, too 😊 We were so impressed with Thomas and also with Stephen, who is very responsive and put up with my many emails and questions, always with the greatest patience and kindness. They did such a great job we can't recommend them enough.

Highlight of the trip! - This was a beautiful tour. The lake was peaceful & the views from Eagle’s Nest were stunning. We added the salt mine which was so fun. We had family in our group from 12 - 75. Everyone loved the extra adventure. It makes you feel young. We couldn’t ask for a better guide, Karl felt like family by the end of the day.

Eagles Nest tour - The tour guide was excellent, I felt like I was part of the history, he explained to me the story of what happened. As an Australian I had plenty of questions. My tour guide answered the questions very simply so I understood clearly

Worth every Euro. - We have just arrived back from the Konigssee and Eagles Nest tour and what a fantastic and informative day out it was. Our guide Stefan not only took us to the "main attractions" but added in little sights and places along the way that we would never have known about without his detailed local knowlwdge. We would highly recommend Stefan and we would like to thank you once again Thank you for a fantastic day.

Friendly and Accommodating - Katrin was our guide. Was very friendly and accommodating. Would recommend. We were held up a bit in traffic running a tad late and she had no problem with us getting a meal even when time was running late....
