Additional Information

Among Oman’s most expansive, Nizwa Souq welcomes a plethora of traders peddling their wares from 5:00am until around 10:00am daily. The offerings range from fish, meat, vegetables, to artisanal pottery, jewellery, handicrafts, and keepsakes, all housed within the classic halls of the marketplace that possess a unique old-world charm. The highlight of this locale is undoubtedly the circus-like Friday cattle market, where locals from surrounding villages bring their livestock, including donkeys, goats, cattle, sheep and chickens, to sell. Adjacent to the souq stands the grandiose Nizwa Fort, bearing witness to the economic and martial prowess of the early Yaruba dynasty in the mid-17th century. Our journey continues to Birkat Al Mauz, nestled at the foot of Jebel Akhdar, where the ruins of an old village and the thriving Banana and Date plantations await your discovery. Lastly, we ascend to Jebel Akhdar, or ‘Green Mountain’, named for its abundant fruit farms and rose gardens, which are particularly vibrant from May to September.
