(1/2) Day Tour to Giraffe Centre & Karen Blixen Museum, Nairobi - Our guide, Isaac, was wonderful and made sure we enjoyed the whole experience. I knew about Karen Blixen from Out of Africa but had no idea to the extent of her influence and support of the local community. And being up close and personal with the giraffes was unforgettable.

A wonderful day. Enjoyed so much and would highly recommend. - The baby elephants were so much fun to watch. They had mud-baths and rolled in the dirt, and you had to be careful you didn't also get a spray of mud. It was great fun!! The Giraffes were gorgeous, so graceful and gentle. They would gently take a food pellet from your fingers with their long, blue tongues. Such beautiful creatures.

Terrific way to spend long ayover day in Nairobi. - Beth did a fantastic job arranging our tour and ensuring we had the correct visas for our day trip. Peter picked us up early after our overnight flight and immigration. We began with a tour of the Kobe Tough Bead and Leather center, learning how belts and the beads are made from Mt. Kenya clay, glazed then fashioned into beautiful jewelry. Then we learned about the rescue and breeding program at the Giraffe Center and fed several giraffes. Next we went to the David Sheldrick Elephant and Rhino rescue and orphanage. Peter helped us arrive early so we could stand in prime position around the rope fence to take the best photos while the baby rhino then two groups of young elephants came into the area to be fed. Be careful next to the fence as red clay dust got on our clothes. Afterwards we ate at the Carnivore buffet restaurant then he returned us to the airport still 2 hours before our Kilamajaro flight. He was a safe, knowledgable driver with a bright clean car, space to keep our carryon luggage secure and an ability to have the best parking location for our convenience.

Giraffe Center, Elephant Orphanage, Beads and Ceramic Fabric, and local Kenyan lunch. Go for it with Peter driving! - The tour was amazing, our driver for this tour was Peter. He started our day bringing us to the beads and ceramic fabric, very important Maasai community helping local women. After we headed to the Giraffe Center, had a very fun time feeding the giraffes and got great pictures. Then we headed to the Elephants orphanage, which was incredible and we manage to take a nice spot because Peter gave us some tips to get a better place to see them and interact with them before it got too crowded. Lastly, we went to a very nice place to have lunch, the food was delicious and not expensive, all traditional Kenyan cuisine. We are just starting our trip and it was a wonderful way to do it. Definitely recommended.

Giraffe and Elephant Center. Great way to end our 7 day safari before flying back home. - Everything went well. Peter, our driver was punctual. Not sure if Perfect Wilderness overcharged us at $90 per person but I am sure you could get the tour less if you’re able to book with Sheldrick Wildlife Trust for the Elephant Center which costs KS 2,000 you pay as you enter and Giraffe Center costs KS 1,000. It’s best to go to the Giraffe Center first as they open and go to the Elephant Center which is only open 11 AM to 12 PM. It is well worth the visit! I’m pretty sure you could rideshare there and just talk to the driver and pay him cash for the two.

Saving the Elephants - Our favorite part was the tour of the elephant orphanage. The work the Sheldrick center is doing to save orphaned elephants is phenomenal. The dedication given to their rescue and rehabilitation is beyond compare. These youngsters look adorable but each one has suffered an extremely traumatic event that resulted in them being at the orphanage. I highly recommend this tour.

Busy Day! - Our guide, Black Santa, was excellent. He spoke very clearly even wearing a Covid mask and so was easily understood. He was very patient with our request for photos and had to slow or stop to accommodate us. We visited the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage (which was awesome), followed by the Giraffe Center (feeding them was a great experience), then stopped for lunch at Bush Garden. We made a brief stop at the Kazuri Bead Factory, then headed to the Karen Blixen Museum which we greatly enjoyed. My wife wasn’t feeling well and Black Santa took great care to work with me to escort her around the sites. He was very patient with the slow pace she required. It was a busy but very rewarding day for us and Black Santa helped make it so!
