Highlights
  • Mt. Fuji 5th Station - Situated at an altitude of 2300 meters, the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station provides a stunning view of the Fuji Five Lakes area below, making it a favored destination even for those not planning to climb the mountain.

You can enjoy a clear view of Mt. Fuji if the weather is favorable with no clouds or rain.

  • Chureito Pagoda - The Chureito Pagoda (忠霊塔, Chūreitō) is a five-story pagoda located on a mountainside, offering a panoramic view of Fujiyoshida City and Mount Fuji in the distance. Part of the Arakura Sengen Shrine, it was constructed as a peace memorial in 1963, nearly 400 steps up from the shrine’s main buildings.
  • Lake Kawaguchiko - You can have lunch here as there are many restaurants around Lake Kawaguchiko.

Lake Kawaguchiko has a surface elevation of about 830 meters, contributing to its cool summers and icy winters. The area around Lake Kawaguchiko offers activities like a ship cruise or a ropeway cable car, but you need to pay separately for these rides, costing 1000¥ per person.

  • Oshino Hakkai - Oshino Hakkai (忍野八海) is a popular tourist spot featuring eight ponds in Oshino, a small village in the Fuji Five Lake region, situated between Lake Kawaguchiko and Lake Yamanakako on the site of a former sixth lake that dried up several hundred years ago. The ponds are fed by snowmelt from Mount Fuji, which filters through porous lava layers for over 80 years, resulting in exceptionally clear spring water revered by locals.

You can get a close view of Mt. Fuji from here if the weather conditions are good.

  • Oshino Hakkai Sengen Shrine - Sengen Shrine, located in the Oshikusa district, was built in Daido 2 (807 AD). The main shrine features a cypress bark roof and is designed in the Sangensha Nagarezukuri style.
  • Saiko Iyashi no Sato Nemba - A scenic spot with Mt. Fuji in the background, featuring old Japanese houses with thatched roofs where you can find local crafts and meet local artists. Rental kimonos and samurai armor are available.
  • Oishi Park - Located on the north shore of Kawaguchiko, Oishi Park offers a magnificent view of both the lake and Mt. Fuji simultaneously.
  • Fuji-Q Highland - Fuji-Q Highland is an amusement park in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi, Japan, operated by Fuji Kyuko Co. It opened on March 2, 1968, and is situated near the base of Mount Fuji.
  • Mount Fuji - The trekking trail begins at the 5th station of Mt. Fuji. A guide will lead you along the Yoshida trail to the 7th station (2700m). The trail is easy and offers an enjoyable tour of Mt. Fuji. If you wish to hike to the summit, we can arrange that for you as well!

Beautiful, albeit cloudy, day trip to the mountains! - We had a beautiful day outside of Tokyo seeing the area adjacent to Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and we could only see the base of the mountain but we knew going into this trip to Japan that the mountain is obscured more days a year than it is visible so you have to manage expectations. Don’t book this tour if you feel you’re entitled to seeing the mountain or you’ll be disappointed when you don’t as the guides don’t control the weather. Usman was an excellent driver and guide and was very apologetic that we couldn’t see Mt. Fuji even though we reassured him we had realistic expectations going into the trip. The rural areas of Japan and the shrines are incredibly beautiful and we highly recommend this tour for those who like to leave the hustle and bustle of the city for a peaceful experience.
