Highlights
  • Kalabshah - Situated along the shores of Lake Nasser, Kalabsha Temple awaits your exploration. An Egyptologist expert is ready to escort you on an exclusive journey through the temple, revealing its hidden narratives. Over a span of two years starting in 1961, the temple was methodically deconstructed into 15,000 segments and relocated to its present position beside Lake Nasser. The temple pays homage to Horus, the Egyptian deity, and Mandulis, the Nubian god, and was erected shortly after the Ptolemaic period, which followed the demise of Alexander the Great in 323BC. The temple’s exterior is bare, indicating that its initial constructor, the Roman leader Octavius Augustus, never saw it to completion. Nonetheless, Kalabsha Temple is esteemed as the most intact and extensive standalone temple in Nubia. Its interior walls are adorned with Egyptian motifs, including an engraving of St George vanquishing a dragon and Coptic Christian symbols, reflecting the Christian period’s impact. The script found here continues to baffle scholars, with its provenance yet to be determined.
