Highlights
  • Rawson Square - Rawson Square, situated in downtown Nassau, serves as the entry point to the city for cruise passengers. It is named after Sir Rawson W. Rawson, who was the Governor of the Bahamas in the late 1860s. At the center of the square stands a bronze bust of Sir Milo Butler, the first Governor General of the Bahamas after independence. A fountain in the square is dedicated to Sir Stafford Sands, the first Minister of Tourism of the Bahamas.
  • Queen’s Staircase - The Queen’s Staircase, often referred to as the 66 Steps, is a significant landmark within the Fort Fincastle Historical Complex in Nassau. Carved out of solid limestone by slaves between 1793 and 1794, it is believed to have provided a direct route from Fort Fincastle to Nassau. The steps were later named in honor of Queen Victoria, who ruled Britain for 64 years, from 1837 to 1901.
  • Government House - Government House, located on a 10-acre estate on Mount Fitzwilliam, is the official residence of the Governor General of The Bahamas. Built in 1801, this grand pink and white building on Duke Street exemplifies the Bahamas’ blend of British and American colonial architecture.
  • Graycliff Heritage Village - A paradise for chocolate lovers. At Graycliff Chocolatier, guests can learn to craft their own chocolates under the guidance of a master chocolatier or simply savor these exquisite gourmet chocolates. Gourmet chocolates and truffles are available for purchase at the boutique and select stores in the Bahamas.
  • John Watling’s Distillery - John Watling’s Distillery is located on the historic Buena Vista Estate in downtown Nassau. Overlooking the harbor with panoramic views, the estate spans over two acres of lush tropical gardens with century-old black olive trees. Here, you can sample the spirit of the Bahamas, including John Watling’s exclusive creations: Pale, Amber, and Small-batch Buena Vista rums, Red Turtle vodka filtered with pink sands from Eleuthera, and a gin infused with botanicals from Andros and other islands. Additionally, enjoy a traditional Bahamian cocktail at the Red Turtle Tavern and pick up a souvenir from the gift shop.
  • Pirates of Nassau Museum - This wax museum is dedicated to the history of pirates in the Bahamas and those who opposed them. It features dramatic reenactments of battles with sound and light effects, exhibits showcasing the lives of pirates, their homes, tools, and weaponry, and details on how they were punished, including being marooned on a desert island. Informative plaques provide historical context, and there is also a gift shop on site.
  • Pompey Museum of Slavery & Emancipation - Named after a courageous slave, Pompey, who lived at Rolle Plantation in Steventon, Exuma, Bahamas, the Pompey Museum is housed in the historic Vendue House, built before 1769. The Vendue House functioned as a market until the late 19th century, where enslaved Africans and other goods were sold during the 18th and 19th centuries. The building was converted into a museum in 1992.
