After lunch, we’ll visit one of Nasu Shiobara’s highlights – its waterfalls, a marvel in an area boasting over 100 cascades. Crossing the suspension bridge offers a breathtaking view, so captivating that it earned the name ‘Mikaburi Waterfall,’ meaning ‘the waterfall you’ll look back at again and again.’ This spot is also renowned for activities such as kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding.

  • Nasushiobara - -Miyouunn-ji temple

During the Heian period, the Taira clan reached the height of its prosperity. However, as times changed, they lost in battle and many members of the Taira family fled from Kyoto to the provinces. Among them was the aunt of Taira no Shigemori, Unzen-ni, who escaped to this area and built a hermitage. This temple, which has a history of over 800 years, stands as a testament to those times.

  • Nasushiobara - -Summer house of Aoki Shuzo・Meiji no Mori

Stepping into a scene straight from a storybook, you’ll discover the enchanting German-style summer house of Aoki Shuzo, a key figure in the Meiji government, built nearly 200 years ago.
