Additional Information

The traditional preparation of Turkish coffee involves a meticulous process that starts with the selection and grinding of high-quality coffee beans to ensure the perfect fineness. However, what makes the experience truly exceptional is the method of brewing the coffee on sand. In Cappadocia, specially designed sand-heated copper pots known as “cezve” are filled with water, coffee, and sugar, and placed on heated sand. This method allows for gentle and controlled heat distribution, enhancing the flavors and aromas of the coffee. With the pot nestled in the warm sand, it gradually reaches the desired temperature, resulting in a rich, flavorful brew.

For visitors to Cappadocia, indulging in this unique experience is an extraordinary opportunity to immerse oneself in the customs, traditions, and flavors that make Turkey such a delightfully diverse destination.

Turkish coffee workshop - This was such a cute and intimate workshop! Ozan and Filiz were the nicest hosts, they were teaching us about the traditions of Turkish coffee and a little on the history of Turkey itself Whilst we waited for the sand machine to heat up, they gave us little bites and Turkish tea, which Filiz actually baked herself! We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend this - especially for a first time experience trying Turkish coffee overall! Ozan also was super helpful when we asked him for other things to do in Cappadocia and places to eat Generally a really lovely experience :)

Turkish workshop - It was a short workshop but definitely worth it! Murat have us a detailed explanation on how to prepare the Turkish coffee along with a very nice conversation about other topics related to Göreme and Kappadokya. We also got some home-baked cookies and a slice of cake as well as some Turkish tee, which really rounded up the whole workshop!

Great experience! - The activity was great! In a great restaurant, we first enjoyed Turkish tea and pastries made by the staff in a small group, then we made our own coffee and prepared it ourselves. Our guide Ozan told us a lot about the culture and at the end we were able to enjoy our prepared coffee with Turkish delights. A great experience from the start! We'd love to do it again!

A step-by-step guide on how to make a real Turkish coffee ped by amazing locals! - We really enjoyed the workshop, and Murat, who led it, was amazing! It's a great activity, if you are looking for a break from valley-exploring and want to learn more about the culture of coffee in this region. We were served Turkish tea and local cakes and biscuits upon arrival. The coffees we made turned out delicious and we had some Turkish delights to go with them. Filiz, who was helping Murat and was serving us was a very lovely lady, too! This place definitely worth visiting, whether you're staying in Göreme or a nearby town!

Highly Recommended!! - Fantastic experience, great English speaking host and a bit of history provided too! I am a coffee fanatic so I throughly enjoyed the experience of making my own coffee in this fashion, learning about the process and watching how it all worked. Nice added bonus was the side of baking and Turkish delight. Highly recommend this tour!

Coffee making and tasting - We were requested to rate our experience multiple times. This was a fun experience and we were fortunate for it to be just the two of us. The coffee tasted great and was complimented nicely by the home made sweets and cake (delicious). A highlight was discussing our guide's own personal coffee preferences and learning about how coffee culture is changing with his (younger) generation. I enjoyed learning about his studies into English literature at one of the local universities and his insights into Shakespeare (Hamlet being a favourite). Felice, maker of cakes, was especially delightful and very kind to us – she made the whole experience especially welcoming. My suggestion to the tour operators is to include greater detail regarding the history of coffee culture in Turkey and to include a fortune-telling activity. Although neither of us are superstitious (in keeping with our host's views), it is fascinating that fortune-telling of coffee is very widespread in Türkiye. Thanks again guys.
