Scott’s Fabulous Tour of the Garden District - My tour guide, Scott, provided an outstanding tour of the Garden District on July 23. He has an impressive wealth of knowledge (all by heart) about the origins and historical context of the area. Scott gave interesting details about the cemetery and numerous mansions including architectural details and botanical accents. Scott was very patient and let me take pictures and type notes all along the way. For each home, Scott shared the date it was built, name and occupation of the builder, interesting circumstances, and the names of subsequent famous owners, such as John Goodman or Sandra Bullock. Scott is a gifted storyteller and he revealed lots of tales including movies filmed on site, Edgar Degas painting a fresco in the foyer or musician performances, such as Jaime Foxx channeling Ray Charles on the piano in the parlor. I had a most wonderful tour!

Great experience! - We very much enjoyed our walking tour of the Garden District. Our guide, Orion, was extremely personable and knowledgeable about the area we visited. And his love for New Orleans came shining through! Orion shared numerous anecdotes about the history and occupants of the homes that we viewed. It really made the area come alive for us. We especially appreciated Orion's sensitivity to the extreme heat the day we toured. He kept us in the shade whenever possible and even loaned out small handheld fans, as needed. All in all, a great experience!

Treat yourself to a walk around the Garden District with Orion. - What a pleasure our tour with Orion was today. My two teenagers and I were totally drawn in, and we learned so much about the beautiful Garden District and about New Orleans as a culture. Orion was masterful at keeping the whole group--which spanned across ages, nationalities and accessibility needs--educated and entertained. While this tour is a little off the beaten path, and not necessarily what one thinks of when they hear "New Orleans", it was an absolute highlight of our very busy and very programmed visit. It was also a breathe of honeysuckle filled air. I'd like to underscore that Orion set a great example of being respectful of people who are just trying to go about their lives in their neighborhood. Being from a tourist town myself, I appreciate a guide who sets that ethos for tour groups.
