Highlights
  • Lake Pontchartrain - After pickup in central New Orleans, it’s a short drive across Lake Pontchartrain to Honey Island Swamp, a wildlife preserve that is one of the last protected wetlands in Louisiana.
  • Honey Island Swamp - Your guide welcomes you aboard a custom-made 22-passenger flat-bottom boat. The smaller sized, quiet boat can fit through narrow passages in the swamp foliage so that you see more and get closer to wildlife.

As your guide explains the history of Louisiana’s wetlands and swamp ecosystem, be on the lookout for alligators, raccoons, owls, wild boar, nutria, snakes, turtles, black bears, bald eagles and other bird species. Get a close look at some wild gators as your guide shares facts about the toothy beasts, who can weigh up to 1,000 pounds (453 kg).

Glide safely through the fertile swamplands, learning about Cajun culture and how local people have utilized the swamp for food, homes, and medicine. You even see an authentic Cajun village that is only accessible by boat. Gain an understanding of why the wetlands are slowly disappearing and about the efforts being made to preserve Louisiana’s natural treasures.

After a fascinating 2-hour boat tour, your guide returns you to shore.

Great experience! - Our driver was Derek and he was amazing. Lots of great restaurant recommendations and info about the city post Katrina. Capt Todd was our boat guide. He knew so much about flora and fauna. We learned a lot and saw lots of wildlife. Picked us up in French quarter. Easy for us to get to even when we were staying outside the quarter. Highly recommend.

Perfect for a day out - It was awesome! Our guide (Scott, if I recall correctly) was so knowledgable, steered the boat perfectly, we saw lots of alligators, raccoons, birds - this environment is so fascinating, don’t think twice, book this trip. Also, transportation to/from New Orleans was on time and safe driving!

A wonderful surprise and terrific guide! - We forgot to bring lots of cash or Justin would have had it all. I was hesitant about a swamp tour, but my husband liked the idea. Wow! Did I change my mind! I am a retired college professor, and Justin taught me so much in a humorous and interesting way. I will definitely recommend this tour, but only with Justin as the guide! He needs a raise!

Amazing swamp tour. Must do during a visit to New Orleans - We took this tour with seven of my friends and it exceeded our expectations. Our tour guide, I believe his name was Jacob, was extremely knowledgeable in various areas and provided us with stories filled with amazing facts about the history of the region, as well as its flora and fauna. I highly recommend booking this tour specifically with him. We saw a lot of crocodiles and racoons and it was fun.

Swamp tour with Captain Dustin - We had a great experience with Captain Dustin and saw lots of alligators and some Racoon’s. Didn’t see the village advertised and there was no mention of it which was a bit disappointing because I booked this tour specifically because it was mentioned. I got a great photo that I have uploaded. If you look close you will find two alligator’s and two Racoon’s in the one shot.
