Additional Information

Shrouded in secrecy, and often misrepresented by popular culture and Hollywood depictions, Voodoo has long held a place in New Orleans legends, folklore, and history. Concealed among the slaves of the 1700s, it was popularized and commercialized by the renowned Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau in the nineteenth century. Voodoo remains a religion in the modern-day city of New Orleans. But how do you distinguish the facts from the fiction, rumors, and superstitions?

Join Robi as he seeks to shed light on one of New Orleans’ most unique subcultures. From its roots in West Africa and Haiti to the temples within the French Quarter today, you will explore the history, culture, and beliefs of both historic and current practitioners. Along the way, Robi will reveal the truth behind some of the more popular superstitions and their meanings within traditional rituals. The tour will include stops inside modern-day Voodoo/Hoodoo temples, where guests will have the chance to pick up some New Orleans “gris-gris” to take home!
