- Chelsea - On this 2-hour tour, you’ll visit approximately seven of the most important contemporary art gallery shows of the moment, seeing and discussing artwork in variety of media. Exhibitions change every five to six weeks, so there is always something new to see. Your itinerary will include a range of mega-galleries and smaller space showing artwork by nationally and internationally acclaimed artists.

Additional Information
A local art critic, writer, and college instructor are your certified tour guide. She has designed and conducted tours in New York’s galleries and museums for more than fifteen years and will guide you to the most current prominent exhibitions. Within our intimate group, there is the open invitation for you to raise questions and share your thoughts while your guide offers context on the top showcases in New York City!
- Tours take place rain or shine and meet in a different gallery for each tour. A message with the meeting location will be sent prior to the tour.
- Your tour guide is licensed by New York City’s Department of Consumer Affairs as a tour guide and is a member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA USA).
- Some galleries have stairs. Please let us know in advance if you need to avoid stairs so we can make sure the itinerary is accessible.
- Travelers should be able to stand and walk for two hours. Seating is usually not available.

Terrific tour - highly recommended - We thoroughly enjoyed this unique tour of contemporary art galleries around Chelsea. Merrily was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating - the perfect guide! She chose a terrific selection of galleries and artists. The tour was super enjoyable and relaxed. We had lots of interesting discussions and Merrily provided all the information we needed about the artists, galleries and architecture around us. Merrily’s guidance made the art and galleries so much more accessible than if we had visited alone. Looking forward to doing this tour again when I’m next in New York!

Brilliant experience - highly recommended - Highly recommend this tour. Merrily is extremely knowledgeable and has researched well each of the exhibitions we visited. All of her choices of galleries were outstanding. Looking forward to another tour on my next visit.

Wonderful Tour! - What a treat to have an inside look at the latest art in Chelsea! Merrily was extremely knowledgeable and friendly, which led to excellent discussions about the art she showed us. We can't wait to return - Merrily and New York Art Tours are now a permanent fixture on our "must do" list when in the city!

Very Enjoyable Contemporary Art Tour - Our guide was Merrily and she provided really interesting background to the artists whose work we viewed. It was a really enjoyable tour, with discussion encouraged in a relaxed environment. Would definitely recommend.

The best way to experience New York's gallery scene - This was my third tour with Merrily in person. I have also enjoyed her virtual tours via Zoom. It is a wonderful way to view the best of the Chelsea galleries. Merrily provides context and background for the artists and exhibits, which adds so much to the experience. I can’t say enough good things about New York Art Tours!
