Fantastic - not to be missed - What an unexpected delight. Went with a friend while we celebrated our birthdays. Friendly staff. Wonderful exhibits. Unseen work of Vivian Maier. Powerful images largely from 1950’s and 60’s. Amazing talent. Also street art - Bruce Gilden. Some of the images will stay with me for a long time I am certain. Beautiful space on 6th floor - would be great for jazz concerts. Intimate. Cozy. Highly recommend.

Nice Saturday out with the family - Great exhibit! Enjoyed the day with my wife and mother in law. It didn't feel crowded and had a nice gift shop/cafe downstairs.

Astonishing Unseen work - Excellent small scale exhibits in beautiful building. Vivian Maier’s work was astonishing. Disappointed that the People’s Mag exhibit was closed on a Friday.

A nice alternative to the standard museums - Having visited NYC several times we were looking for something a little different to MOMA & the other art museums. Fotografiska seems to have a variety of changing photographic exhibitions & today we were drawn to the Vivian Maier display which was engaging, as were the others on show right now. Whilst entry tickets are not inexpensive the museum has 2 distinct advantages, the first being it's late opening hours every day (9pm & 11pm Fridays/Saturdays) & the second being a welcome lack of blurb accompanying each photograph. Art museums often seem to have lots of waffle to trawl through whilst wandering around but here the focus is definitely on the pictures!

Great exhibitions - Having visited the Stockholm site, I was very interested to visit the one in NYC. As fortune would have it, it happened to be on the second Sunday of the month which happens to be exactly when they offer discounted tickets at $10 - well worth knowing if you live in the city or are planning a visit. It was well worth the price. They had 4 exhibitions spread across 4 floors. My favourites were the People Magazine exhibit displaying some of their highlights over their 50 year history and the exhibit on the natural world and human overlap - some very thought provoking pieces there. Would visit again if I'm ever in town.

It’s really a coffee shop with some pics. - I couldn’t agree more with the low-rating reviews, this place is expensive, snooty staff and it’s really a coffee & gift shop masquerading as a museum. $30 is excessive for the admission price. On the day we visited we were told that early admission was discretionary and up to $10 for early bird entry before noon. Then we were told two floors were really only open with exhibits to the general public. In the end we basically bargained for a 2 for 1 ticket. Both floors were beautifully staged and curated like nothing I’ve seen at a museum in NYC from the lighting, wall colors, framing, subject matter and medium. This place feels like the old ABC Home store with photography. Nice gift shop and cool coffee cafe vibe. But $30 a ticket…um, no.
