Highlights

John’s of 12th Street - John’s of 12th Street in NYC boasts a rich history tied to the Italian Mafia. Situated in the East Village, this renowned Italian eatery opened its doors in 1908 and swiftly became a favorite among mobsters. During Prohibition, it functioned as a speakeasy, producing wine and whiskey in its basement. A notable event linked to John’s is the 1922 assassination of Umberto Rocco Valenti, a Morello family hitman, who was killed there during a “peace meeting.” The restaurant’s old-world charm and Mafia connections have cemented its legendary status, even earning features in shows like Boardwalk Empire and The Sopranos. We gather in the back room of this iconic “Red Sauce Joint” for many reasons, including its historic ties to the early days of the NYC Mafia.

Brilliant tour and great food. Hey forget about it!!! - Denis is a brilliant tour guide, took us on a tour of areas that were frequented by the “ mob” around little Italy. Tour also doubles up as a movie tour as plenty of movies including God Father, good fellers and Donny Brasco have been filmed here. Food was also delicious and plentiful. Well worth it Chris & Claire UK 🇬🇧

Family with teens visiting NYC for first time - Dennis was VERY knowledgeable about local crime history, especially the mafia and related movies. He shared a lot of fascinating stories. This tour is great for those who already have some baseline understanding but lacked a general overview or introduction, even though there was plenty of time to do this… The food was great, but this was not really a “food tour”, more of a restaurant and neighborhood tour. The tour was fine for teens but probably not for younger kids due to some of the content and length (>3 hours).
