Highlights
  • (Suitable for children aged 5 and above). Park your vehicle at the public parking lot at 23 America’s Cup Avenue (Newport Transit Center) and find the white outdoor trolley stationed at Platform #7-9. Please showcase your digital or paper ticket to the driver

  • The trolley tour will take you into Fort Adams, a historical 1799 monument and host venue for the current Newport Jazz Festival and Newport Folk Festival. The fort also boasts the Eisenhower House, President Eisenhower’s vacation residence.

The Welcome Center is equipped with a snack bar, clean restrooms, and a counter for ticket sales for the fort tour.

Fort Adams State Park also has two water taxi stops, free public parking, and the Bennington Overlook area that provides stunning sunset views over Narragansett Bay and complimentary parking.

  • The trolley tour also passes by Brenton Point State Park, the former property of Rhode Island’s second Governor William Brenton (elected 1665). This public park provides stunning Atlantic Ocean views on both sides and year-round sunset spectacle over the water. Seasonal restrooms are housed in the stone building.

  • The trolley tour takes you through the Ocean Drive Historic District. Here, you’ll start seeing Newport’s mansions from the Gilded Age set against the stunning backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean.

Mansions on Ocean Drive include Mavis and Jay Leno’s Seafair, and several filming locations for HBO’s TV series ‘The Gilded Age’ like Indian Spring Castle, The Ledges, and Crossways mansions.

  • As the trolley tour enters the Newport Cliff Walk region of the Bellevue Ave Historic District, you’ll discover more about the Gilded Age mansions situated along the Cliff Walk, sandwiched between Reject’s Beach and Newport Beach for 3.5 miles.

Your guide will advise you on the best ways to access the Cliff Walk, free parking zones, and prime viewing areas.

  • The trolley tour stops outside the second of the three Newport Vanderbilt mansions – ‘The Marble House’.

This mini palace constructed in 1892 played a significant role in the success of the women’s suffrage movement. Alva Vanderbilt hosted fundraisers here, raising considerable funds to pass the 19th amendment.

The Marble House and Chinese Tea House were the Asian wedding scene in the Katherine Heigl film ‘27 Dresses’. Free parking is available for Marble House tour visitors across the street at 585 Bellevue Ave.

  • The trolley tour also stops at the Rosecliff Mansion, a 1902 ‘summer cottage’ of Tessie Fair-Oelrichs. The well-known film, The Great Gatsby, was shot here.

Seasonal tours are available at the Rosecliff mansion.

  • The trolley tour arrives at The Breakers Newport, the third Vanderbilt Mansion in Newport, dropping off passengers who opt for the interior tour.

This 1895 constructed ‘summer cottage’ is the largest mansion around and is Rhode Island’s top tourist draw. It faces southeast towards the Atlantic Ocean, located on the Newport Cliff Walk.

  • The trolley tour continues along Bellevue Ave and goes past The Elms Newport, a Gilded Age mansion belonging to Edward and Sarah Berwind. Your guide will talk about the two in-house tours available.

  • The trolley tour takes you past the International Tennis Hall of Fame, the 1881 location of the old Newport Casino (Gilded Age millionaires’ shopping district). Your guide will explain the free and paid tours offered inside the ITHOF

Nice trip and the Breakers is a Must See - Fun trip and the tour guide/driver did his best to entertain. Newport is such a beautiful place to visit. The Breakers was a blast the free audio guide on cell phone was a good overview. Others spots we visited along the way were enjoyable as well.

A guided tour well worth taking - Our tour guide, Troy, was animated and knowledgeable. We saw many of the great sights of Newport that we would not necessarily have found on our own. The mansion tour of the Breakers was amazing.

Very Enjoyable - Our tour guide and driver (Russ) was extremely knowledgeable about the town to include the history, the current and prior residents and the best places to eat, drink and shop. He was also quite humorous. The tour is well worth it and the Breakers is an unbelievable piece of real estate.
