Highlights
  • Niagara Falls Visitor Center Parking Lot 1 - Welcome to the majestic Niagara Falls! Let’s jump right into exploring this breathtaking natural marvel! Our journey starts at the parking lot near the Visitor Center. When you’re ready, begin your walk into the park, following the blue route line on your map.

NOTE: This 3.5-mile tour highlights the key attractions of Niagara Falls in 1-2 hours.

  • Niagara Civil War Monument - This is the Niagara Civil War Monument. Despite being far north, the Civil War had a significant impact here in Niagara Falls. In fact, Niagara Falls was a vital stop on the Underground Railroad before the war! Enslaved individuals seeking freedom would come here as their final stop before crossing the border into the safety of Canada.

  • Niagara Falls Observation Tower - We are now at the Niagara Falls Observation Tower, which stands 282 feet above the ground. If you have tickets for the Maid of the Mist, the elevators in this building will take you down to the boat docks. Before boarding the boat, be sure to visit the main observation deck, just ahead, through the enclosed area.

  • Prospect Point - Here we are at one of Niagara Falls’ most iconic viewpoints: Prospect Point. Don’t hesitate to approach the railing for a closer look! On July 28, 1954, a British newsreel captured a remarkable natural event here, known as the Prospect Point Rockfall. The day before, a nine-year-old boy noticed cracks in the ground and alerted authorities about the point’s stability.

  • Hells Half Acre - We are now crossing the rapids known as Hell’s Half Acre. Spooky! This site is infamous for one of Niagara Falls’ most tragic events. On the evening of July 18, 1853, three men who had been drinking were rowing from Goat Island to the mainland. Unfortunately, their boat capsized, and the river swept them downstream.

  • Luna Island - This small, uninhabited island is nestled between the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, making it an ideal spot for an up-close view of Bridal Veil Falls. It’s as if you’re standing right on top of them, just at the river’s edge. It can be a bit intimidating if you’re not fond of heights!

  • Nikola Tesla Monument - Notice the statue of the man appearing to read a large map? That’s Nikola Tesla. If you look closely, you’ll see he’s wearing rubber overalls, typical for engineers in the twentieth century to protect against electric shock. Look even closer, and you’ll realize the large paper is not a map but blueprints! This statue honors Nikola Tesla’s contributions to the hydroelectric efforts at Niagara Falls.

  • Cave of the Winds Lookout - The Cave of the Winds Lookout offers spectacular views of the Bridal Veil Falls. “Views” is an understatement. At this lookout, you can taste, smell, hear, and be drenched by the waterfall, even if you try to stay dry. Visitors receive an iconic yellow poncho called the yellow sou’wester, but the lookout is so close to the falls that almost no one escapes the chilling spray of water misting up from where the falls crash onto the rocks below.

  • Terrapin Point - Welcome to Terrapin Point. It’s the closest American lookout to the Horseshoe Falls. If you look straight across to the observation point on the other side, you’ll see people on the Canadian side marveling at the same wonder as you. It’s like a reflection!

  • Three Sisters Islands - Through the dense greenery to our right, you might catch a glimpse of Three Sisters Islands. Before European settlement, these islands were significant to the Indigenous peoples of the region, especially the Iroquois Confederacy. They considered the falls and the surrounding area sacred, and the islands played a crucial role in their ceremonies and rituals.

Great Tour Overall - The self guided tour app was just great. Quite a lot of details and stories that made my walk, to the falls, entertaining. I'd recommend wearing headphone or something cause the place is so crowded, cause I visited the falls on the weekend.
