Brilliant day out. - This is our 2nd food tour and won't be out last. First one was in York and 2nd in Harrogate. Linda our guide was lovely and very knowledgeable, we have been to Harrogate before but learned so much about the place that we didn't know. There was only myself and husband on the tour that day so it was just like a private tour. Linda took us to independent places to sample a brunch, then onto next course of Yorkshire pudding with a lovely filling. Next was a cafe for delicious cake, then an ice cream parlour and finely a traditional pub for cheese and biscuits washed down with a local beer. Overall a briilliant day. I'm already looking at going on the next one. Thank you

Good food and informative - Our guide was Kay who was very good company and very knowledgeable on the local area and history of Harrogate. The food was great and by the end we had eaten our full so don't think you need to eat again. Harrogate was new to us and will definitely return for one of the numerous festivals they have.

Brilliant, do this - Wasn't sure what to expect when I was bought vouchers, but the whole experience was wonderful. It probably helped that we picked a lovely warm sunny day, and that the couple we shared the walk with (never met them before) were lovely! Kay was a relaxed and welcoming host and clearly knew her stuff, and every stop was great.

Harrogate Food Tour - My friend and I went on the Harrogate food tour with the lovely Kay at the weekend, and it did not disappoint. We visited some lovely independent eateries, as well as hearing the history of Harrogate.

A great guided tour with less impressive tastings. - An excellent guide who knew her history of the places we visited. We saw places in Harrogate we'd never seen before and were very impressed. We loved the real ice-cream though it was a tiny sample. The cakes were excellent. The Yorkshire Tapas was average and the breakfast egg benedict was very small but tasty. Overall we thought the guide and information was first class but the food was less impressive for the price.

Otley was terrible Harrogate might be better - We chose the Otley tour aving attended both a Ripon and York Food tasting I had anticipated good food and lots of it.  Unfortunately I was disappointed by the very poor quantity and quality of food served out of a succession of Tupperware containers. It is very difficult (if not impossible!) to justify the £254.40 (including booking fees) my party of four paid in this regard, particularly as the tour price does not differ from that of Ripon or York.  The tour started with half of a small, individual sized Yorkshire Tart (served from Tupperware on a park bench) which, by the Tour Guide's own admission, was made in Harrogate and not Otley.  We then took a stroll to the Bondgate Bakery where small pieces of a variety of bread were served without an accompaniment of butter or indeed anything. We were told that we could keep the leftovers to take home. (What we were supposed to do with so much bread I know not.)  We were then guided to a sweet shop, and yet another Tupperware dish was produced, this time containing a variety of old fashioned sweets. We didn’t go inside the shop, but were permitted to take from the aforementioned Tupperware box a Parma Violet tablet or a stick of liquorice each. I’m sure they have old fashioned sweets in other parts of the country and they are not limited to Yorkshire. (I suppose a Yorkshire person bought them to give the connection to the area, because she certainly didn’t make them.) Throughout the tour the guide read from plastic coated crib sheets, and regaled us with the history of the area. To be fair, she said that she was standing in for someone else, although she had some local knowledge to supplement the type-written information. Our guide was polite and, on the whole, did a good job, although I am making allowances for absenteeism.  My party of four were now starting to get hungry having driven from London on my recommendation to get their fill of Yorkshire Cuisine, based on my two previous experiences. Indeed, we hadn't eaten since 8 or 9 a.m. on the promise of the lavish food I had experienced on other tours. After the sweets, we passed through the small market to sit with under the old market shelter. We struggled to find a clean bench. Yet another Tupperware dish was produced - this time containing quartered, small, individual pork pies. We helped ourselves to a quarter each. They must have been bought in some local supermarket – I daresay the nearby ‘Yorkshire’ Sainsburys. Surely something more substantial must be coming, we thought. Next to the Functional Drinks Club where we met a pleasant entrepreneur who was enthusiastic to tell us about his one-year sobriety. We received 2mm tastes of Kombucha - normal & flavoured- horrible!!! The shop owner was persuaded to share a 250ml bottle of Kimchi with our group of seven, and similar with the Kefir. I wish he hadn’t bothered. We were told of the health benefits of these products, but it didn’t seem to be doing the presenter any good as he was sporting a raging cold, although assured us it was hay fever. (My wife since had symptoms of a similar type of ‘Hay Fever’.) Now finally onto a micro-brewery. The anticipation for a mega picnic was building. Surely this is where we get fed, we thought. To our disappointment we received a basket of dry water biscuits and three small triangles of cheese each that made Dairylea look generous. Of course all out of another Tupperware box. (We debated whether health & safety/food handling hygiene requirements had been observed during the preparation and storage of the foodstuffs we were given...) I poured a beer and was allowed to drink it. I offered to pay but the Manager said “It’s only a pint”. My comrades were treated to a 2mm ration of local gin and with that we parted company with the guide.  To say that my guests from London were livid would be an understatement. 250 miles for very meagre pickings, and a completely unjustifiable price tag of near £65 each.
