Best tours we could have asked for!! - We could not have asked for a better tour of a section of Hadrian’s Wall and nearby Vindolanda Museum! Kevin is incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the Roman period in Ancient Britain. As Kevin toured us through the museum (which has an active archaeological dig April to September) I felt sad for guests who did not have the benefit of his insights and stories. My husband, who loves historical walking tours, was extremely pleased that we had been lucky enough to benefit from Kevin’s expertise. Highly recommend!!

Awesome Guide and Tour - The tour was as described and more. Kevin was great, more than just knowing his stuff, he had passion for the history and awe at the artifacts displayed at the museum. It was a very personalized tour, he slowed to our pace and was very attentive. We disembarked from a cruise and Kevin referred us to a taxi company (Haydon Taxis) that knew the somewhat complex itinerary (two locations) which made the whole tour worry free.

The big picture - Kevin started out by showing us the clothing and weapons of Roman Britain, then we went for a short walk to see the wall, a milecastle and the earthworks south of the wall from various angles. Kevin is very knowledgeable about the Romans and their history in the area, and did a wonderful job of describing Hadrian's Wall not just as a boundary, but as an economic and social ecosystem, connected up with the whole Roman Empire, its trade and its people. This was reinforced by the visit to Vindolanda, which under Kevin's guidance, put the Wall into a much wider perspective. A real day to remember.

History Comes to Life! - My two-week solo history exploration of parts of England included this fascinating section of Hadrian’s Wall. I wanted to do more than walk the wall, so I booked this tour and I’m so glad I did. Kevin, the tour guide, is a wealth of information about all things Roman Britain history. Kevin was able to answer all my questions and boy did I have a lot of questions. I was lucky enough to be the only person who booked the tour that day. I am so thankful that he did not cancel the tour, as I had come to Haltwhistle specifically for this tour. I made sure to wear sturdy but comfortable shoes as the terrain along the wall is uneven. This tour included admission to Vindolanda. This Roman archaeological site and museum is an extraordinary informative sight, where you can truly see Roman Britain come to life. If you enjoy history, I strongly encourage you to book this tour.

Brilliant ! - Kevin is an excellent guide, such an amicable chap, so enthusiastic and engaging with a tremendous depth of knowledge. The ancient past was truly brought to life. I am fairly local to Hadrians Wall and must say I learnt more on the subject than I ever did throughout school ! Would reccommend his tours in a heartbeat. I now have a real interest into further research...Go raibh maith agat !

Great tour experience - Kevin was a very knowledgeable guide who gave us an excellent tour. It was a great experience, particularly his information in the Vindolanda museum which was a special site. The pace of the tour was not too strenuous for seniors like us with dodgy knees. Getting to the site really needs a car but facilities once in the carpark are good with toilets and a coffee van. Brilliant! - Kevin deserves all these glowing reviews! I wasn’t sure whether to go for the 2 hour or half day trip and I’m very glad we booked the longer one. The first half was a trip to Hadrian’s wall itself and the second half was to vindalandia. In both cases we were able to appreciate it so much better with Kevin’s help. At the wall we learnt about the context of the society, why and how the wall was built and how it operated. At vindalandia he showed us the key buildings which really helped us under what we were looking at, and then after a lunch stop, the key pieces in the museum. Throughout he was clear and engaging to listen to. He was also very friendly and keen to meet all the varying needs of the group. Highly recommend!
