Highlights
  • Osaka Station - Meet with your guide at 9:00 in front of the Water Clock at JR Osaka Station. Please choose some must-see spots from the Spot List below. On average, you can visit 3 spots during this tour. - Dotombori District - Dotonbori, in the heart of Osaka, is a vibrant hub known for its dazzling neon lights and culinary delights. Famous for iconic sights like the Glico Man sign and a plethora of street food options, it epitomizes Osaka’s lively culture. From takoyaki and okonomiyaki to bustling streets filled with eateries and bars, Dotonbori is a feast for the senses, especially at night when it truly comes to life. This district offers a deep dive into Osaka’s dynamic atmosphere, making it an essential experience for any visitor eager to capture the city’s vibrant essence. - Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street - Shinsaibashi Shopping Street in Osaka is a bustling retail haven stretching over 600 meters, blending high-end boutiques, trendy outlets, and traditional shops. As one of the city’s oldest shopping districts, it offers something for everyone, from fashion aficionados to souvenir seekers. Alongside shopping, visitors can enjoy a variety of cafes and eateries, making it a perfect spot for a leisurely stroll and a taste of Osaka’s vibrant urban life. Positioned near major attractions like Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi is a must-visit for those looking to experience the essence of Osaka’s shopping culture. - Kuromon Market - Kuromon Market, dubbed “Osaka’s Kitchen,” is a covered public market street that stretches about 600 meters in the Minami area of Osaka. The market has about 150 shops that sell fresh seafood, meat, vegetables, fruit, drink, and as well as daily clothes and homeware. The market dates back to around 1822, and today makes for an atmospheric place to stroll around, shop and eat a variety of different street foods. - Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum - This lovely small museum located in the heart of bustling Dotonbori is a gem for Japanese art lovers. It exhibits ukiyo-e woodblock prints published in Osaka which centered primarily around Kabuki in the Edo period (17th -19th century). It will be a nice sneak out of the crowds. - Nipponbashi Denden Town - Nipponbashi Denden Town is equivalent to Tokyo’s Akihabara well-known as a bustling hub for electronics, anime, manga, and otaku culture, often compared to Tokyo’s Akihabara. This vibrant district is packed with stores offering a wide range of products, from the latest electronic gadgets and computer parts to anime merchandise, video games, and collectibles. Denden Town is a paradise for tech enthusiasts and fans of Japanese pop culture, offering endless shopping opportunities and the chance to immerse oneself in a unique aspect of Japanese culture. Whether you’re searching for rare items or simply soaking up the lively atmosphere, Nipponbashi Denden Town promises an exciting and memorable experience. - America-mura - America-mura, also called America Village, has been shaping and leading the trends of the youth culture. In the 1970s, the area became famous for second-hand clothes and jeans that were being sold in renovated warehouses and those items were purchased in the West Coast of the United States. You still can feel the vibe of its origin from many shops and arts in this town. Streets are adorned with murals and graffiti, adding to its edgy atmosphere. Popular among the younger crowd, America-mura is the place to explore the latest trends, enjoy diverse street food, and experience Osaka’s contemporary urban vibe. With its unique blend of Japanese and American cultures, America-mura offers a dynamic and colorful experience that contrasts with the traditional aspects of Japan, making it a must-visit for those looking to see a different side of Osaka. - Shinsekai - Shinsekai, meaning “New World” in Japanese, was a New World in the beginning of the 20th century inspired by the then-modern cities of New York and Paris. And this area has remained largely untouched over the years and now is a nostalgic district in Osaka that offers a vivid glimpse into the past with its retro charm and lively atmosphere. Shinsekai is famous for its iconic Tsutenkaku Tower, a symbol of Osaka’s skyline. The area is renowned for kushikatsu (deep-fried skewered meat and vegetables) and other local delicacies, served in the bustling restaurants and street food stalls that line its streets. Shinsekai’s vibrant, somewhat kitschy vibe, combined with its rich history and unique culinary offerings, makes it a fascinating area to explore, providing a stark contrast to the city’s more modern districts. - Shitennoji - Shitennoji Temple is the oldest Buddhist temple in Japan and the first ever to be built by the state. It was founded in 593 by Prince Shotoku, a key figure in Japanese Buddhism. This historic temple is a testament to the introduction of Buddhism in Japan, featuring a classic temple layout with a five-story pagoda, main hall (Kondo), and a beautifully maintained garden. Shitennoji’s grounds host a tranquil atmosphere, offering a space for reflection amidst its ancient architecture and serene landscapes. Although the temple buildings burned down several times throughout the centuries, they were always carefully reconstructed to reflect the original 6th century design. - Osaka Castle - Osaka Castle, one of the most famous castles in Japan, is a symbol of Japan’s rich history and stands as a majestic landmark in Osaka. Today, its main tower houses a museum that chronicles the castle’s storied past and offers panoramic views of Osaka from its observation deck. Surrounded by a scenic park, the castle is a favored spot for cherry blossom viewing in spring. With its historical significance and natural beauty, Osaka Castle offers visitors a unique glimpse into Japan’s cultural heritage, making it an essential stop for anyone exploring Osaka.

Osaka tour - My recent tour of Osaka offered a captivating journey through its historical and cultural landmarks. We began at Osaka Castle, a grand emblem of the city's feudal past, where the imposing stone walls and panoramic views from the top provided a striking contrast between the ancient architecture and the modern skyline. Tennoji Temple followed, offering a serene retreat with its tranquil gardens and the historic Shitennoji Pagoda, embodying Osaka’s spiritual legacy. Our adventure concluded in the vibrant Shinsekai area, where the bustling streets, quirky shops, and neon lights created an eclectic, retro atmosphere. The Tsutenkaku Tower added a nostalgic charm, perfectly capturing the dynamic spirit of Osaka. This tour beautifully intertwined the city's rich history, cultural depth, and energetic urban life.

We also visited the museum inside the main tower which is dedicated to the history of the castle, famous people lifelines. In the afternoon we moved to Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori area, where our guide explain a lot about Japanese street food like takoyaki, okonomiyaki and so on. Osaka Top Tourist Spots - This was my first walking tour in Japan and I enjoyed it. As a solo traveller it was a great way to meet new people. I think this tour is best suited for people who have never been to Japan. As someone who has lived in Japan before it would have been nice to have seen some places off the beaten track. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable and took us to some great tourist spots.

Informative walking tour of Osaka - Enjoyable and informative walking tour of Osaka included several places we wanted to visit, with the bonus of a tour guide providing information on the areas we would have otherwise missed. Food and entry cost to the castle and temples not included, but no pressure to include these if you don’t want to. But still plenty to see if you just want to walk around (Osaka castle for example). Some of our group has already visited one of the shrines and were able to enjoy the grounds and wait for those of us wanting to pay for admission without issue. We were given a choice of places to all stop for lunch together, with pricing made clear with both options. Maybe not somewhere I would have chosen to eat, but the food was great and something we hadn’t tried yet. Plus it was a welcome rest point for cold drinks! One possible improvement would be an advance optional itinerary, so you can declare in advance what additional extras/entry fees you would like to include in your tour. This might make it easier to group attendees in accordance with their needs. It would also save putting people on the spot on the day, as some may not speak up and miss out if the majority don’t wish to pay to enter. That aside, a very enjoyable day with our knowledgeable and very personable tour guide.

An introduction to Osaka's highlights - I participated in the "Osaka Best Spots" 6h private walking tour, which provided a comprehensive look at the city's history and culture. The guide was knowledgeable and informative, sharing interesting facts and anecdotes about the city's landmarks we visited. The tour was well-paced and flexible, adapting to the group, but lacked standout moments. Overall, it was a solid and educational experience.
