The Shinsekai district is unique — there is nothing really like it anywhere else in Japan. The neighborhood dates back to the early 1900s and grew in popularity through the post-war “Showa” era until the 1960s. An exploration in this colorful neighborhood really is very “Local-Osaka.” It’s always so much fun, at any time of day!
Although people visit from across Japan and around the world, this area is still very much a locals’ spot- with many shops, restaurants, and gaming parlors catering to the everyday laborers who live nearby. This retro district is full of inexpensive local dining and entertainment options. Take a stroll with our local expert and we will show you the hidden gems and explain the colorful history of Shinsekai through the years. You will get to try different local dishes at 4 different shops. Each item has a long history in the Osaka area.

Highly recommended! - Thanks, Akiko, for a great experience! We had the opportunity to get to know a piece of authentic Japan. Akiko explained the historical background of the New World neighborhood and introduced us to the world of Osaka delicacies. Despite great crowds, she always knew where to take us for the next treats. An all-round successful evening!

Fun chat and food - Ike was lovely with an interesting story to tell and clear enthusiasm for life. So gentle too. He had Jahmelah helping, who was a livewire American who has lived in Japan for several years. A good combo. Food was great as was the retro pachinko. We wandered around under the old Osaka tower and even had a knife demo by a English/NZ ex-pat of many years, Daniel, at Tower Knives. Also recommended. Our guides were with us well over the 3 hours as we chatted away. Good food and great insight into Japanese life!

One of the highlights of our Osaka trip - A fantastic insight into this lesser known area of Osaka. This tour was booked by our tour company as part of our package. Probably wouldn't have thought to choose this. Bit so glad we did. Russ was an excellent host who loves this part of the city for good reason.
Perfect mix of information, insight, fun activities and, above all else, great food.
And don't forget to ask him about his band,
The Stingrays!

Wonderful time in Osaka - Miyuki was a wonderful host in Osaka. She took us to wonderful places that we would have never known to look for otherwise. From sushi to takoyaki and kushikatsu. We highly recommend Arigato Food tours. Ask for Miyuki.

Authentic Osaka - An incredible tour of Shinsekai with our lovely guide Kevin, who has now lived in Osaka for 23 years. His passion and love for the area was so evident throughout the tour and made for a special experience. No question was too much and he was able to paint such a wonderful and knowledgeable picture of the area past and present - whilst enjoying some fabulous food on the way. We wouldn’t have been able to find/try many of the food we had which makes it that much more special! Thanks Kevin you smashed it!

A wonderful evening in Shinsekai - My son and I were lucky enough to have Sae and Takahi as guides for a wonderful and tasty tour through Shinsekai. Sae led the tour with great conversation in perfect english. She provided deep historical and cultural context for each point throughout our walk, which made for an unforgettable experience. The cheat sheets for phrases and etiquette were quite helpful as well. We would have never discovered such unique spots on our own, so we're very grateful to have booked this tour!

An absolute must! - My boyfriend and I did the Nishiki Market Tour in Kyoto and the Shinsekai Street Food Tour in Osaka. Both were fantastic. Our guides, Thomas and Sae, were warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. The tours gave us a meaningful understanding of the cities, their cultures, and cuisines (the food we ate was INCREDIBLE). Both excursions made our trip to Japan all the more special. I will be recommending this company to friends and family!

Wonderful food and Tour Guide!! - This was the perfect way to explore Osakas amazing food scene! Ike was an incredible guide. He shared so much knowledge about Osaka and the food we were eating. He also guided us to some incredible food! It was wonderful to spend the evening with him. He was a perfect representative of the welcoming and kind nature of the people of Japan. Highly recommend this tour! Come hungry you wont be disappointed!

Osaka street food tour with Sae! - We had a fantastic food tour with Sae. She was very knowledgeable and so friendly. Sae took us to the best places- we would never have found them without her. We had so much fun and the food was amazing.

Retro tour of Shinsekai - Our tour guide was Micky and Hana was her assistant. Micky was filled with a lot of knowledge and very informative. Hana was wonderful and answered any questions we had. The tour felt rushed and it felt like conversation wasn't encouraged.
