Situated in the Eastern sector of Yala National Park, it serves as both a bird haven and a dwelling for some of the bigger mammals that are found in Yala West Park. Kumana’s outstanding feature is a vast estuary, nourished by the “Kumbukkan Oya”. The majority of the birds that make Kumana their nesting ground utilize this mangrove marsh between May and June to rear their offspring. Pelicans are a common sight, while the most seldom spotted bird is the black-necked stork.
