Additional Information

This private day excursion, spanning over a duration of 5 hours, commences from Kathmandu and escorts you to the 1750 meters high Namobuddha hill, located above the village of Panauti. Take a break from the bustling city life and immerse yourself in the splendid panoramic vistas of the surrounding mountains and the valleys beneath. Occupying the top of Namobudha is the exquisite Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery, offering panoramic views of Panauti and Khopasi villages. It’s widely believed that in a previous existence, Lord Buddha, as a prince, sacrificed his own body to a famished tigress and her five cubs, who were too weak to hunt for food. The remains of this altruistic prince are believed to be housed in the Namobuddha Stupa, located near the Namobuddha Monastery. The hiking trail commences from the historic town of Panauti and cruises through farmlands, small patches of woodland and villages towards the peak of Namobuddha. Upon reaching the peak, you will visit the monastery, followed by the shrine, while enjoying panoramic vistas. The journey culminates with a drive back to Kathmandu, with a drop-off at your hotel.

A great day hike outside of Kathmandu and wonderful site to learn about. - Shankar and Ravi made a great team and helped to make the Namobuddha tour wonderful. We hiked a combination of roads and trails, and enjoyed beautiful views of the valleys between Dhulikhel and the Monastery at Namobuddha. Shankar was a wealth of knowledge and helped to add religious and cultural perspectives for the sites, stupas, Temple and Monastery along thr way. If you want to experience a slightly challenging day hike outside of Kathmandu, which includes a cultural and historical experience I definitely recommend this tour!

Great tour of the countryside and Namobuddha. - After the mayhem of Kathmandu, it was refreshing to have a quiet walk through the countryside on our way to the Namobuddha monastery. It was like stepping back in time to see the the cutting of rice plants and setting them up in sheaves like wheat. The rice was laid out on tarps to dry in the sun. Namobuddha monastery was shiny and beautiful on top of a hill, giving nice views of the valley below. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking for a nice walk away from the hustle of Kathmandu. Madon was a friendly and knowledgeable guide, and he gave us a good summary of Nepalese history and politics. The tour was a bit longer than advertised, but we were happy to have more time with Madon.

Amazing hike! - It was a lovely route that went through local villages and a monastery as well as plenty of beautiful viewpoints of the Kathmandu valley! The guide Neeraj and driver Govinda were super kind and welcoming! They made sure that I wouldn’t hesitate if I had any questions and were very knowledgeable about a large number of topics. Would definitely recommend to anyone up for a lovely hike!
