- Peratallada - The town of Peratallada is perched on an old sandstone hill and is one of Catalonia’s best-preserved medieval sites. Its spectacular city walls, built atop the jagged rock, give it a special majesty not seen anywhere else in the region. The original height of the towers is preserved, and the castle with the Tribute Tower is one of the few castles in the Empordà region that has been preserved without any changes since it was built. All this, together with the maze of cobbled streets, gateways to the walled compounds, squares, arcades and winding alleys, makes for a unique visit that will take us back in time.
In 1975 the town of Peratallada was declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) in the historical-artistic complex category. This declaration was motivated by the desire to preserve and highlight the many remnants of the town’s medieval past, such as the moats, the walls, the Tribute Tower and the entire urban fabric of the town.
