Highlights
  • Maho Beach - A “MUST SEE & EXPERIENCE” : the spectacular overhead jet landings at popular Airport Beach !
  • Marigot Market - Marigot’s waterfront is host to a colorful souvenir market. Browse through the items on sale at this cluster of stands : local art & jewelry, spices, hot sauces, rum, beach wear & accessories, gift ideas, and much more. The remains of historic Fort St. Louis are located on the adjacent hill top.
  • Rotary Lookout Point - Enjoy the peaceful scenery at this section of French St. Martin’s extensive Nature Reserve. The shallow Lucas Bay/Coralita waters are perfect to cool off your traveling feet. This is not a venue for swimming.
  • Oyster Pond - This community is located on your route from the Lucas Bay/Coralita area back to Philipsburg. This part French/part Dutch territory is mainly a residential area, with a few smaller guest accommodations, and a marina. From the hill side you’re overlooking 2 beach front resorts : one along the Oyster Bay coast and one in neighboring Dawn Beach. A simple sign on the side of the road is the only border marker. No border formalities !
  • Great Bay Beach - The 3 hours of touring the island by Jeep is followed by a full hour of beach time in beautiful Great Bay, within view of your ship. 3/4 of this 2-mile-long beach is lined with the Boardwalk. This section of the beach tends to be livelier, with a multitude of beach bars, restaurants and boutiques. The other (unpaved) stretch is quiet and practically undeveloped. Awesome shopping opportunities are nearby, in Front Street, Back Street, and Old Street. You’ll also find many great photo ops within walking distance, e.g. the authentic Creole homes with their typical Gingerbread trims.

Fun time! - We had a fun experience. Guide (Andre?) took us to some super interesting places (the airport low flying planes), great views, Iguanas, beach area, downtown French bakers (Yum). We had a really fun day. We were the 3rd jeep back and it was a little difficult to understand him on the 2 way radio, but we get the gist of what he was telling us and we chatted at the stops to catch the things we missed.

Amazing experience with Friends - Antonio was a great guide and we went with 2 other couples and we were all able to stay together in the 4 jeeps. It might have been a little bit better if the radios worked better as it was a bit difficult to hear Antonio all the time. the tour was great though and we got to see a number or places including Moho beach where the planes seem to be landing on the beach as they approach the airport. We also got to stop at a French bakery and enjoy a few pastries. We all had enough beach time the past few days so we skipped the beach portion and the shuttle driver took us back to the ship early.

Tour of the Ghettos Do NOT recommend - We were the only people on our tour. We did not drive ourselves as the guide drove our Jeep for us. We arrived at the mahoo beach as the first stop. We did not see any planes as the airport schedule did not line up with our tour "schedule". I asked if we could come back later when the planes were scheduled to land, I was told No. Our guide rushed us off the beach at 10am, which caused us to then sit in traffic for 20 minutes while the bridge was opening. He then explained it opens everyday at 10am. So why we could not have timed this better, I don't understand. Then he took us around the island. We saw a cockfighting bungalow, a shack where we could purchase said roosters, many schools, the junkyard, and garbage dump. Then we toured the "government housing developments" before being dropped of at an the area filled with street vendors. As the tour continued we passed by very little places to take pictures or learn anything about the island. We did however pass into a couple private vacation spots where he had us look through or over fences to see others enjoying there vacations or to see the big pools they had in the yards. He pointed out a very nice beach and then drove passed it. The tour ended at the cruise ship beach with a local bar. The bar owner was very nice. We did enjoy the 10 minutes we spent there talking with him. We also stopped along the way to feed iguanas at a roadside shack which was very fun. However, I do NOT recommend anybody take this tour unless you want to see all the bad parts of the island.
