Highlights
  • Royal Palace - The establishment of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh in 1866 is a comparatively recent event in the history of the Khmer and Cambodia. The seat of Khmer power in the region rested in or near Angkor north of the Great Tonle Sap Lake from 802 AD until the early 15th century. After the Khmer court moved from Angkor in the 15th century after being destroyed by Siam, it first settled in Phnom Penh. The main elements of the public eastern courtyard of the modern palace are:
    The Throne Hall, which contains the three main royal thrones and is the place kings are crowned and where foreign ambassadors are received;
    -The Napoleon Pavilion, which Norodom used as a reception hall and is today a museum;
    -The Phochani Pavilion, a banqueting hall;
    -The Chan Chhaya or Moonlight Pavilion on the northeast section of the wall, used for state banquets and dance performances;
    -The Damnak Chan behind the Napoleon Pavilion, an administrative building.

Complete package of all the important places of the Phnom Penh City - The start of the tour was from the hotel since hotel pickup was offered. The tour guide Mr. Sam picked up from the hotel and explained the schedule and the things what to expect during the day's tour. The large and spacious vehicle was provided and since only I was booked for the tour it was giving the feel of a private tour. A set of bananas were provided as fruits as said in the tour information. The tour covered all that was included in the things to expect, but needs to be closely followed since some visits needed to be reminded nearing the end of the tour. The visits started from the royal palace and then covering the killing fields, tuol sleng prison, independence monument and statue of former King. The tour guide was very informative and guided through the tourist locations providing historical information. Cold water was provided which helped in refreshing after every visit. The tour can be considered a complete package of the city but the cost of the tour could be much lesser. Such a price can be suited for private tours. As part of the tour, it would have been better if the museum was covered since it was worth a visit. Some places do regulate the dress code but it could be observed that it was not followed, so an appropriate outfit for the hot climate and respecting the places of visit would be recommended .
