Memorial Point Scenic Overlook - This is the starting point for the journey around the east side of Lake Tahoe on the Nevada side. As you head south along Highway 28 through Incline Village, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the lake, the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the California side, and the Carson Range to your left. There’s a fantastic walking and biking path called the East Shore Trail that runs alongside this part of the lake, perfect for those staying in Tahoe for more than a day. You can park at Memorial Point for about 20 minutes for free, walk down the stairs to the trail, and even go further if you want to touch the water or stand on some of Tahoe’s iconic boulders. Don’t forget to take some photos and enjoy the view!

Sand Harbor Beach - This beach is absolutely beautiful. It features three different beachfronts, each with unique landscapes and views, and a nature boardwalk that is a must-see! It’s an easy, scenic walk filled with opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy water views in every direction. Pay the entrance fee and park wherever you can. A path connects all three beaches. The southernmost beach has a sandy shore and shallow water extending far into the lake, ideal for stand-up paddleboarding. The middle section houses the Visitor Center and a lovely cafe with outdoor dining overlooking the lake. The northern beaches have large boulders that are great for kids to climb and add character to your photos.

Logan Shoals Vista Trail - As you head toward South Lake Tahoe along Highway 50, this overlook is a popular spot for wedding and engagement photos. Once you park and walk up the short paved path, you’ll understand why. Unlike the previous stops close to lake level, this one offers breathtaking panoramic views from high above Lake Tahoe.

Cave Rock - Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park - Another must-see stop! For just two dollars, you can enjoy a 10-minute photo opportunity. After driving through the short tunnel at Cave Rock, head down to the shoreline and look up at the entire rock formation and cave. It’s truly a marvel!

Zephyr Cove - If you’re not planning to spend the day at the beach, you might not want to pay the entrance fee. However, you can still pull into the entrance, bear left for the restaurant and general store, and park there to take a quick look at the beautiful beach and surrounding forest, complete with log cabins available for rent. If you do decide to pay the fee, you can enjoy the beach, make a reservation on the M.S. Dixie Paddlewheeler for a boat ride, or partake in volleyball and water activity rentals.

Nevada Beach - This beach is another must-see. The beauty of this beach is astounding. As you drive down the road, you’ll see a wooden fence along the side. If you don’t want to pay to park in the lot, you can turn around and find a parking spot along the fence. A beautiful walking path leads down to the shoreline, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and towering trees.

Heavenly Village Way - Heavenly Village is full of shops and dining options. Park your car and walk into the main hotel lobby to purchase tickets for the gondola ride, which offers heavenly views of the lake.

Camp Richardson Resort - You’ll recognize the turn for the beachfront by the charming log cabin General Store on the corner. Stop inside for a cozy atmosphere, a meal from the cafe, or some souvenir shopping. On chilly days, you can warm up by the fire.

Tallac Historic Site - This site is definitely worth a visit. Park and explore the trails through old summer estates. The Baldwin Museum, if open, is an old log cabin you can tour. Other historic log cabin mansions along the lake are fascinating to walk around, all set in a beautiful forest.

Taylor Creek Visitor Center - The next road from Tallac leads to another visitor center and nature trails. If you’re short on time, this stop is optional unless it’s salmon spawning season. During that time, you can follow the Rainbow Trail along the creek to watch bright orange salmon swimming upstream.

Inspiration Point Vista - After leaving Taylor Creek, you’ll climb to about 8,000 feet above sea level. Keep your eyes on the road and your wheels on the pavement, as there are no guardrails and the drop-off is steep. The payoff is a stunning overlook at Inspiration Point, offering a jaw-dropping view of Emerald Bay and Fannette Island, the only island in Lake Tahoe.

Eagle Falls Trail - If you’re visiting in the spring or early summer, consider taking the popular Eagle Falls hike to see a powerful waterfall fed by melting snow. In late summer or fall, the waterfall may be reduced to a trickle, so you can skip this stop unless you want a nice forest hike. This is one of the few stops on the left side of the road.

Emerald Bay State Park - This park offers stunning photo opportunities with its emerald-green bay, sandy shoreline, tiny island, and castle. The hike to get there is pleasant, featuring pocket waterfalls and rugged cliffs along a well-worn path.

D.L. Bliss State Park - Upon arriving at this park, stop by the Visitor Center for souvenirs, maps, and to talk to a ranger or volunteer. Although directions are provided, it’s helpful to get information on the Rubicon Trail and parking for Balancing Rock. Drive through the park’s forest to see three sights worth visiting.

Balancing Rock Nature Trail - Follow a dirt trail to find signage for the short trail leading to this unique rock formation that looks like it could topple at any moment. Don’t forget to take a selfie!

Lester Beach - This is a lovely shoreline to walk along, featuring iconic Tahoe boulder formations. However, if you’re short on time or there’s no parking, it’s not a priority.

Rubicon Trail - Just past Lester Beach, still within D.L. Bliss State Park, you’ll find the popular Rubicon Trail. It’s a long trail, but you don’t need to hike the entire thing. A short 10-minute hike out and back offers a high-up view of the lake along the cliffs. Stick to the path and be careful. There’s also an abandoned lighthouse trail, but it’s more challenging and time-consuming. If you love hiking and have a full day, this trail leads all the way to Emerald Bay and Vikingsholm Castle.

Sugar Pine Point State Park - Follow the path along the lake heading south until you see railroad tracks that lead into the lake. It’s an Instagram-worthy photo opportunity, especially with the clear water revealing the tracks almost to the lake floor.

Hellman-Ehrman Mansion - After parking in the main lot, look for the tall fire-lookout-type building. If it’s open, stop inside the nature center to see the exhibits. The main attraction is the Hellman Ehrman mansion. You can tour the mansion or simply walk around the estate grounds. Be sure to step onto the back porch for a lake view before heading down the lawn and walking along the pier over Lake Tahoe.

Olympic Valley - This valley is amazing to see, especially knowing that the Olympic ski slopes are above it. In the summer or fall, the lush green valley feels like a faraway land. If the gondola is open, take it to the top for the Olympic museum exhibit and Washoe tribe displays.

Lake Tahoe Dam - The Lake Tahoe Dam is a vital engineering marvel on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. Built in the early 20th century, it regulates the lake’s water levels and provides various benefits to the surrounding region.

Commons Beach Park - Located in Tahoe City on the north shore, Commons Beach is a charming lakeside retreat with a sandy beach, picnic areas, and a playground. It’s a popular spot for families and outdoor enthusiasts, offering stunning lake views and a tranquil ambiance for relaxation, recreation, and community gatherings.

Watson Cabin Museum - Visit the Watson Log Cabin and Penny Bear. From there, head down the steps or through the parking lot to walk out on the public pier over the lake. You can see all the way across to the opposite side for a view of Heavenly Mountain. There are also wonderful waterfront restaurants in this town. On the way to the next stop, pass Carnelian Bay and make a quick stop for a photo if the view catches your eye.

Kings Beach - This popular beach is similar to Sand Harbor, with gradually deepening shorelines and warmer water. However, the view isn’t as mesmerizing as Sand Harbor. If you have to choose, Sand Harbor is the better option. Kings Beach and its town are nice, but not a priority if you’re short on time.

Historic Stateline Fire Lookout - This wide, semi-paved path leads to an old fire lookout over 7,000 feet in elevation. The view overlooking Lake Tahoe is unique and worth the hike.

Lake Tahoe Scenic Overlook - There’s an overlook along a hairpin turn out of Incline Village for one last memorable look down at Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Meadows South Trailhead - This scenic hiking path winds through picturesque meadows and fragrant forests, offering stunning views of the lake and mountains. With gentle terrain and abundant wildlife, it’s perfect for nature enthusiasts looking to connect with the region’s unspoiled beauty.
