Highlights
  • Damnoen Saduak Floating Market - Our first destination of the day is the renowned Damnoen Saduak Floating Market. You’ll hop on a long-tail boat for a journey through the canals.

The Damnoen Saduak canal was commissioned by King Rama IV in 1866 to ease water travel between the Ratchaburi and Samut Sakhon provinces. It was completed and opened to the public in 1868.

Images of this lively market, with boats brimming with colorful fruits and vegetables, agricultural products, and authentic local sweets, delicacies, and souvenirs, are frequently featured in travel magazines and brochures about Thailand.

The total time spent here includes travel time from Bangkok to Damnoen Saduak (approximately 1.5 hours, depending on traffic).

NOTE: Damnoen Saduak is very touristy nowadays, but it still offers the floating market experience, even if it doesn’t always feel completely authentic.

  • Maeklong Railway Market (Talad Rom Hub) - Our next stop is the incredible Mae Klong Railway Market, locally known as Talat Rom Hoop (‘Market Umbrella Close’). Imagine a train passing right through a public market!

The Mae Klong Railway Market has existed since 1905. Fishing has been (and continues to be) a primary livelihood for the locals, and the market served as another avenue to sell their goods. Officials decided to construct a railway to facilitate the delivery of these goods to other provinces. Despite the new tracks cutting through it, the market persisted.

We’ll wander through the market and hopefully catch a glimpse of the train arriving or departing before heading back to Bangkok.

The total time spent here includes travel time between Damnoen Saduak and Maeklong Railway Market and from Maeklong Railway Market back to Bangkok (approximately 1.5 hours, depending on traffic).

  • Wat Bang Kung - Wat Bang Kung is renowned for its small chapel, which is entirely enveloped by the roots of a banyan tree called Bot Prok Po. It almost seems as if the tree itself serves as the temple’s pillars, and without the roots, the chapel would collapse. You can also enter to pay respects to the Buddha image.
The temple grounds once served as a naval fort and were the site of a fierce 18th-century battle between Siam and Burmese invaders. Today, the temple grounds also serve as a memorial to warrior heroism.

This market is set right on the railway track, and each day, both customers and vendors make way for the Bangkok-Maeklong train to pass through. With the sound of a warning bell and an announcement in Thai over the loudspeaker, vendors swiftly retract their awnings. It’s truly amazing!

Great day trip to the markets with a history lesson - Surin was my tour guide for the train market and floating market. I booked the tour at the last minute and I’m glad that I went. She gives so much information about the rich culture and history of Thailand. She definitely takes pride in her work and she is proud of her Thai heritage. I would absolutely book another tour with her as my guide.

Love love love - Such a good tour, where you can experience three remarkable sights. The train stop is very cool with great opportunities to shop, the Buddha and banyan tree temple is so beautiful and inspiring, and the floating market is entertaining and eye-catching. We had Surin as our tour guide who was an absolute joy and so friendly. Mr. Eak was a safe and efficient driver who had a smile on his face throughout the day. Highly recommend!

A must see! - Kis at wondersiam was amazing tour guide and this was our favorite experience in Bangkok! He immersed us into the Thai culture by giving a brief history of each destination we went to! Totally worth the experience of going on the tour vs watching it on screen. We scored some great gifts for an affordable price and had some of the best Thai food yet. It is quite hot so bring stuff to stay cool! A/c on the bus is a blessing lol.
