There’s MUCH MORE to the eruption story! - The group we happened to be with was great. Our “tour guide” was not who actually led the tours of Pompeii and Herculaneum. The stop at Pompeii started with a “tour” of a cameo shop - which was mainly high pressure sales of cameo jewelry. Pompeii itself was really interesting. The size and amount of excavation was larger than we expected - as was the quality of items recovered. There were a lot of tourists, but we were able to cover the entire site without rushing. Herculaneum was more interesting to me - partly because our guide knew so much about it and had the ability to show details without being the least bit boring. The differences between the two sites were obvious, so if you see just one site you would really not understand what happened when Vesuvius erupted - and you would not know the impact it has had on the entire area through the years.

Pompeii and Herculaneum in the rain in one day! - This was an excellent trip in spite of the weather (rainy and windy). They picked us up promptly at our hotel. The group leader, Francesco, ran an organized trip. The guide at Pompeii, Francesca, was excellent. We had visited Pompeii a number of years before and used an audio guide. Francesca added so much to what we had learned earlier. The lunch was simple but more than adequate. The weather at Herculaneum was worse and only audio guides were used but they were very good. It was as good a day as could be expected in the rain. I had read earlier that doing Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day was difficult. Probably in the summer it would be difficult but in the cooler weather, it’s really not a problem.

Neapolitan excellences - Excellent organisation, very punctual, very professional but at the same time kind and friendly. A special thanks to the contagious smile of Serena, our guide who pampered us from start to finish, and to the friendliness of the driver Mario.

Incredible Experience - We were a group of four and we were treated to a wonderful and educational day. Glauco was such a fantastic guide. He showed us areas of Pompeii and Herculaneum that most people never see. I would highly recommend Glauco and this tour to anyone looking for an education day of living history.

Excellent tour of Pompei; very disappointed in Herculaneum. - The site guide at Pompei was excellent. Group of 6. Saw recently opened areas but not ones usually listed in guide books. Lunch was tasty and adequate. Herculaneum via audio guide was not so great. (I hate audio guides!) site is small and must be terribly crowded in season. Skip this…
