Experience the splendor of wildlife as you engage in turtle-watching on the Eastern shores of Trinidad, in the quaint village of Matura. We journey through a small forest region, and the state of the road may change depending on the climate, necessitating the use of alternative turtle-watching locations to observe the grand leatherback turtles. Your participation contributes to aiding the youth of the village striving to improve their lives. Truly an authentic nature expedition! The vulnerable leatherback turtles grace the shores from the 15th of March to the 15th of September each year during the nesting period. These colossal leatherback turtles frequent these beaches around 3 or 4 times throughout the season to deposit somewhere between 480 and 1,000 eggs. As common knowledge suggests, they can reach up to seven feet in size. A majority of the turtles can tip the scale beyond 2,000 pounds. These majestic creatures journey thousands of miles across the water to reach this location to nest, with the season winding down by the 15th of September 2023, an ideal time for baby turtles.
