Additional Information

The moments preceding dusk present the ideal paddling opportunity on Casco Bay’s waters. The skyline often bursts into vibrant hues and the sea usually becomes mirror-like and tranquil. This excursion involves a relaxed paddle, enough to admire a sweeping view of the sunset over the city while we return to the East End Beach. This two-hour journey is suited for all paddling skill levels, even for beginners in kayaking.

The specific course we follow depends on the weather and the group’s desires and abilities, however, the Sunset Tour typically begins exploring Portland harbor’s waterfront, followed by the open seas towards Casco Bay’s islands.

We will call off this tour if there’s consistent rain, high winds or any conditions that we believe will interfere with an amazing paddling experience. But, we will carry on with our tours in light drizzles, cloudy skies or slightly cool temperatures.

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Departure time may vary depending on the sunset time of the day. Please contact supplier 24 hours prior to verify.
  • Minimum age is 10 years old
  • Most participants will be given tandem (two-person) kayaks unless they request a solo kayak
  • Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions. It is usually cooler on the water than on land.

Amazing nature all around - We got to see seals, a porpoise, and a bald headed eagle while out on the water. It was amazing! Miriam, our guide, was so knowledgeable and kind. She was a great tour guide and very safe, which was good because I'm not an experienced kayaker and was nervous. The whole experience was wonderful. I highly recommend!

Amazing Kayaking experience. - Amazing experience. Gerbin was an amazing guide. We were able to make a full loop, get up close to seals and kayak under a bridge. Booking was super easy online. Check in easy as well. Everyone was friendly and helpful. They even give you a dry bag to use for anything you don’t want to get wet. Wish we had time to do another one one of their tours!

Perfect Sunset ordered and delivered! - This Sunset Sea Kayak tour was perfect!! I travel solo and everyone was so friendly and helpful. I was lucky enough to get pal'd up with a wonderful woman name Becky and managed our way around the sea with ease. Our guide, (whose name I cannot remember, I'm so sorry!), was wonderful with his stories and also fabulous recommendations for other things to see and do while in Maine. We also had a perfect evening for a stellar sunset which resulted in fantastic picture. Thank you Portland Paddle, I appreciate you!

Best kayak adventure! - My family & I are here on vacation - when I stumbled across this activity, I knew it would be the perfect adventure for us. Our instructor Joe, was extremely pleasant & informative, we loved this experience with him! It was my husband & son’s first time kayaking & Joe made them feel safe & at ease by answering all concerns & questions. He often included our 7-year-old in the learning & teaching experience & even did an amazing trick with his kayak! He included frequent rest periods, he was personable, and talked a lot about Portland’s history, which my husband & I especially enjoyed. We’ll never forget Joe! They’re already asking when we can kayak again! Thank you so much for the best experiences of our lives!
