Highlights
  • Forest Park - From the Lower Macleay Trailhead, we’ll enter the verdant wonderland of Forest Park. The park features over 70 miles of well-maintained trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders. You won’t believe you’re still in the city limits!
  • Wildwood Trail - Much of our Forest Park hike will be along Portland’s famous 30-mile Wildwood Trail (don’t worry, we’re only walking a few of ‘em). The Wildwood Trail is the longest soft-surface hiking trail within a city in the U.S. - and it’s all ours to enjoy!
  • Witch’s Castle - We’ll stop at the Witch’s Castle, a.k.a. Stone House, and learn the storied and tragic history of this stunning landmark with roots dating back to the Oregon Trail.
  • Pittock Mansion - Nestled atop Portland’s scenic West Hills, the Pittock Mansion is a beacon of historical grandeur and architectural elegance. We’ll stop at the mansion’s meticulous grounds for a picnic of local goodies, restroom breaks, and Insta-worthy photo ops. The view of Mount Hood (Oregon’s highest peak at 12,500 feet) behind the cityscape is breathtaking!

Additional Information

Mere minutes from the hustle of downtown Portland, a wooded wonderland awaits you. Forest Park boasts over 5,200 acres of lush greenery and 70 miles of pristine trails, making it one of the largest urban parks in the U.S. - and, in my humble opinion, our best!

In this guided tour with a local expert, you’ll hike beneath a grand canopy of majestic Douglas Fir, stunning Bigleaf Maple, whispering Western Hemlock, mighty Oregon White Oak and more. Hikers will enjoy jaw-dropping views of the Cascade mountain range, featuring Mount Hood - Oregon’s highest peak at 12,500 feet.

Other attractions on our tour include Portland’s storied Witch’s Castle and the historic Pittock Mansion. We’ll stop outside the mansion for a small picnic of local goodies, restroom breaks, and Insta-worthy photo ops before trekking back down to the starting point.

Wonderful Experience! - The Forest Park hiking tour was a wonderful experience for our family! Our guide, Daniel, was fun, friendly, and very knowledgeable about Portland and the Pacific Northwest. The pacing of the hike was perfect, with brief stops for pictures, gear demos, and learning about the park’s attractions. The Pittock Mansion grounds were gorgeous, and the picnic there was great! We definitely lucked out on such a beautiful winter day. Portland is a magical spot, and this tour totally set the tone for our trip. I'd recommend this tour to anyone visiting Portland!

Perfect hike with a great guide! - As a first-timer in Portland, I couldn't ask for a better introduction to its natural beauty. It’s amazing this “forest” is 10 minutes from downtown. The biodiversity is incredible, and the view from Pittock Mansion was indeed spectacular! We could’ve hiked on our own, but having a local guide made this a truly memorable experience. Daniel was easy to talk to and knew so much about hiking, Forest Park, and Portland. He shared some fascinating history about the park and attractions and even showed us how to use hiking gear like trekking poles and water filters, which was a cool bonus. The hike was relatively easy, except for some moderately challenging switchbacks right before the top. We started to get sweaty when we arrived at the mansion for a welcome respite - exactly the level of challenge we wanted! The local snacks were delicious and a nice touch. Daniel also gave us great excursion and restaurant recommendations, especially the Oneonta waterfall hike and Tulip Shop Tavern. We’re definitely doing his food tour on our next visit. If you love nature and hiking and want to learn about this special spot, I highly recommend this tour! It's well worth it.
